Drew Central Pirates, Lady Pirates begins final regular season contests

The Drew central Pirates and Lady Pirates have entered into their final week of regular season play.

The Pirates have lost two straight contests beginning with a rescheduled contest on Saturday, travelling to Dumas to face the Bobcats who lead the 3A-8 with a conference record of 13-0.

In the contest with Dumas, the first half would be played closely in both the first and second quarters with Dumas outscoring Drew Central 16-14 in the first quarter and 15-14 in the second to hold a 31-28 lead heading into the locker room at the half.

Drew Central would come out of the locker room to have their best performance of the contest in the third quarter. 

In the quarter, the Pirates would hold the Bobcats to nine points in the quarter, while offensively scoring 20 points to take a 48-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth, the Bobcats would return the favor to the Pirates, holding Drew Central to nine fourth quarter points while scoring 22 points to take the five-point, 62-57, win to maintain their undefeated conference record.

Drew Burton and JaCorrian Love would lead the Pirates in scoring with 13 points each followed by Tre’Bennet Fuller and Tralon Miller with 10 points. 

Tramond Miller would add nine and Alex Preddy would round out the scoring with two points. 

Returning home on Monday to host the McGehee Owls, The Pirates would begin the contest by going on a 9-0 run before closing the quarter with a 14-4 lead.

The Pirates would outscore the Owls in the second quarter 12-10 to hold a 26-14 advantage at the break.

McGehee would come back to outscore the Pirates in the third quarter, 18-12, to cut the  lead to six points, 38-32.

The Owls would complete the comeback in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Pirates 22-10, taking the 54-48 win.

Tre’Bennett Fuller lead the Pirates with 12 points followed by Drew Burton with 10. 

Tralon Miller added seven points, Tramond Miller and Alex Preddy added six points, JaCorrian Love with five, and Nick Bailey with two points.

For the Lady Pirates, they would go 2-1 in conference play to start the final week of regular season play.

On Saturday, the Lady Pirates would defeat the conference leading Lady Bobcats at Dumas 38-36.

Kaiya Williams would lead the team in scoring with 12 points followed by Hannah Meeks with 10.

Ali Jo Cruce would add six points, Edriana Hunter with four, Kaliyah Miller scoring three, Sayveiona Durden with three, and Kassidie Gilbert with one. 

The Lady Pirates would return home on Monday to fall to the McGehee Lady Owls by a score of 53-23.

The Lady Pirates would have three players score seven points, Edriana Hunter, Lana Boykin, and Sayveiona Durden.

Hannah Meeks would score six, Kaiya Williams and Ali Jo Cruce with two points, and Kaisa Orr scoring one point. 

Both the Pirates and Lady Pirates would get a win over Lakeside on Tuesday night.

The Pirates would be awarded a forfeit win over the Beavers and the Lady Pirates would defeat Lakeside 54-40.

Drew Central will close out the regular season on Friday night, hosting the DeWitt Dragons.

Opening tip for the Lady Pirates will begin at 6pm with the Pirates to follow.
