Dumas Jr. Bobcats pull away late to defeat Jr. Pirates 38-28

The Drew Central Junior Pirates entered Mike Pennington Stadium for the first time in the 2025 season, hosting the Dumas Junior Bobcats on Thursday night.

The Junior Pirates would win the coin toss to begin the contest and would elect to defer to the second half giving Dumas the first possession of the contest.

Cam Sanders would kick the ball away for the Junior Pirates to get the game underway.

Dumas would get the first score of the contest on their possession after the Junior Pirates assisted the Bobcats with three penalties on the drive.

Dumas would get a touchdown and a two-point conversion to go up 8-0.

Drew Central would answer the score on their first possession after driving the field from their own 44 yard line, capping the drive with a 13 yard touchdown run by EJ Lewis and a two-point conversion by Sanders to tie the contest 8-8.

Dumas would score on their next drive and would add the two-point conversion to increase their lead to 16-8.

On the next Dumas kickoff, Lewis would field the kick at Pirate 30 and would return the ball 70 yards for the score to trail by two, 16-14.

The Junior Pirates would take the lead 2:42 remaining in the half after a 21 yard run by Courtland Hampton. to give the Junior Pirates a 20-16 lead.

Dumas would retake the lead before the half with a touchdown and a two-point conversion, 24-20, and would add another score on their first drive of the second half to increase the lead to 30-20.

After a score by Dumas in the fourth quarter to go up 38-20, the Junior Pirates would get on the board for the final time in the contest after a seven yard run by  Sanders.

Ryder Birch would connect with Ashton Govan for the two-point conversion to set up the final score of 38-28.

The Junior Pirates will travel to McGehee on Thursday, September 25, to face the Junior Owls.

Games are set for 5:30 pm.
