The Drew Central Pirates baseball season ended in the first round of the 3A South Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 8, in Ashdown.
Entering the tournament as the fourth seed out of the 8-3A, the Pirates would face the number one seeded Genoa Central for the 7-3A.
In the top of the first inning, the Pirates would get one base runner in the inning after Hunter Griffin was hit by a pitch and advanced to first base, but the inning would come to an end on the next at bat with a strikeout.
The Dragons would get on the board in the bottom of the first after two errors, a walk, a batter being hit and a single to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead.
The Pirates would get two runners in the top of the second inning, both reaching base on walks but both runners would be stranded on the base paths.
Genoa Central would add a single run in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to 4-0.
The Pirates first hit of the contest came in the top of the third inning on a single by Kenlyn Endsley.
The Dragons would continue to add runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning, pushing three runs across to extend the lead to 7-0.
The Pirates would only gain two more hits in the contest with Cade Allison and Jordan Jones being the other two Pirates to record hits in the contest.
Genoa Central would add four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase the lead to 11-0 and after keeping the Pirates from crossing home plate in the top of the fifth, Allison would single and Jones would connect for a double, the game would be called under the “Sportsmanship Rule.”
With the loss, the Pirates season would end with the team finishing the season with an overall record of 6-9.
