Drew Central would travel to Hamburg on Friday, August 22, to face the Lions in the AAA Benefit Scrimmage in what looked like on paper should be a blowout in favor of the Lions who are picked in the Top 10 in the 4A Conference and to finish second in the 8-4A with the Pirates picked near the bottom of the 8-3A.

Playing four eight minute quarters with the second half under a running clock, the Lions and Pirates would play fairly even for the majority of the contest.

After forcing Hamburg to turn the ball over on downs, The Pirates would get on the board first after an eight yard touchdown run by Tre’Bennett Fuller with the drive being highlighted by a pass from Fuller to Jayden Jones for 69 yard gain.

Hamburg would go up by two scores by halftime, but the Pirated would pull within one score in the second half but the eight minute quarters on a running clock would hurt their chances for a full comeback falling 27-20.

Fuller would score all three of the Pirate touchdowns with the Pirate defense forcing two turnovers in the contest.

Drew Central begins regular season play on Friday, August 29, travelling to Smackover to face the Buckaroos with a 7 pm kickoff scheduled.

The Pirates are preseason picked to finish sixth in the 8-3A according to Hottens Arkansas football magazine.
