After a road win a week ago over the Crossett Junior Eagles, 46-16, the Junior Billies would return to Hyatt Field on Thursday, September 25, to continue conference play against the Hamburg Junior Lions.
After winning the opening coin toss, the Junior Billies would defer to the second half.
Crews Preston would kick the ball off to begin the contest and after a 13 yard return, the Junior Lions would begin the first possession of the contest at their own 33.
Hamburg could not get anything going offensively and would be forced to punt with the ball getting away from the Hamburg punter and the Junior Billies making the stop to take over possession at the Hamburg 20.
On the first play from scrimmage for the Junior Billies, Preston would pass the ball over to Dax Bowman who executed a pass to a wide open Zane Diemer who turned and went into the endzone for the first score of the contest.
Bowman would add the two-point conversion to give Monticello an 8-0 lead.
Monticello forced Hamburg to punt on the next possession to take off at their own 25 after the punt.
Jonathan Barefield would get his first carry of the contest for an 11 yard game to the Monticello 36.
After going backwards on the drive, having advanced to the 43 then back to the 38, Preston would connect with Bowman for a 62 yard touchdown pass.
Preston would then connect with Cayden Daniels for the two-point conversion to give the Junior Billies a 16-0 lead as the first quarter ended.
Hamburg would get on the board with 37 seconds remaining in the half on a three yard run.
The two-point conversion would be stopped by Jashawn Woods to make the score 16-6.
Monticello would begin the next drive at their own 36.
Barefield would get the next three carries, moving the ball down to the Hamburg 17.
Preston would connect with Bowman for a second time covering the 17 yards for the Junior Billies touchdown with two seconds remaining in the half.
The two-point conversion would not be successful as the Junior Billies took a 22-6 lead heading into halftime.
Monticello would begin the first drive after the half at their own 35, and after three consecutive penalties would be pushed back to the 11.
After advancing to the Monticello 46, Barefield would break free for a 54 yard touchdown.
After the failed conversion attempt, the Junior Billies led 38-6.
Hamburg cut into the lead on their next possession on a 42 yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion to cut the lead to 28-14.
Monticello would get the final score of the contest after a second touchdown by Barefield on a one yard run to make the final score of 34-14.
Barefield led the Junior Billies in rushing with 15 carries for 176 yards and two touchdowns with Bowman having two receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
The Junior Billies will travel to Warren to face the Junior Lumberjacks on Thursday night with games beginning at 5:30 pm.
The Billies will host Warren on Friday night at 7 pm in the Union Bank Saline River Shootout.
