With the 2024-25 Basketball season nearing the end of the regular season games, both Monticello and Drew Central Junior High teams will be competing in their District Tournament Championship contests.
Monticello will play in the finals of the 8-4A Junior Championships on Wednesday night at the Billie Arena with the Junior Lady Billies facing Star City at 5:30 pm followed by the Junior Billies taking on Hamburg at 6:45 pm.
For the Drew Central Lady Pirates and Pirates will travel to Lakeside Gymnasium in Lake Village where each team will also be competing in the 8-3A Junior District Championship Tournament contest.
For the Pirates and Lady Pirates, they will return for the final regular season contest on Thursday, February 13, at Drew Central Gymnasium for Senior Night against DeWitt before District Tournament play begins next week in McGehee.
The Pirates are currently second in conference with the Lady Pirates in Third.
For the Monticello Billies and Lady Billies, both teams suffered losses against Hamburg which could hurt each team's chances for postseason play.
The teams are not mathematically eliminated from the Regional Tournament but the losses at Hamburg means that for the Billies they will have to win at least two of their last four contests and need Hamburg to lose out.
For the Lady Billies they are in a similar boat as the Billies needing to win at least one or two of their final games with Hamburg losing out for the best scenario for postseason play.
Monticello will play their final regular season contest next week with the final game against Crossett at the Billie Arena to celebrate senior night on Thursday, February 20.
