The 2025 Junior Football season had a slight delay getting underway as the threat of severe storms forced the powers at be to make a decision to reschedule Thursday’s scheduled contest between the Monticello Junior Billies and the Fordyce Junior Redbugs to Saturday, August 30, at Fordyce.

Beginning at 2 pm, the Redbugs would receive the football to begin the contest and would take two plays to score the opening touchdown and convert the two-point conversion to take a 8-0 lead.

The Junior Billies would get on the board with 4:24 remaining in the first half after Crews Preston connected with Zane Diemer for a 16 yard touchdown strike.

The two-point conversion would be stopped with the Junior Billies trailing 8-6.

Fordyce would extend their lead to 16-6 with 1:01 remaining in the half on a 21 yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion.

Monticello would receive the ball to start the second half, beginning their drive at their own 36 yard line and would move the ball to the mid field where Preston would connect with Dax Bowman for a 50 yard touchdown pass.

Preston would keep the ball on the two-point conversion attempt, taking the ball across the goal line to cut the Redbug lead to 16-14.

Each team would have a couple more possessions, but neither team could cross the goal line, with Fordyce taking the game 16-14.

The Junior Billies will return to action on Thursday, September 4, at Hyatt Field facing the McGehee Junior Owls at 5:30.
