Lady Billies, Billies defeat Mills to begin conference play

Friday nights 4A East Conference opener for the Monticello Billies and Lady Billies would have the start time pushed back due to possible weather from 5 pm to 4:15 pm, but would still be slightly delayed when the visiting team from Little Rock Mills went to Monticello High School instead of Hyatt Field to find the soccer field.

After a bit of a delay for Mills to warm up, the Lady Billies and Lady Comets would take to the field first for the opening contest.

It did not take long for the Lady Billies to take control of the match with Maria Gorostiaga scoring the first goal for the Lady Billies with less than a minute off the clock.

JaNiyah Goodman would follow with the second goal for the Lady Billies with 38:14 showing on the clock, and in less than four minutes of play, the Lady Billies would go up 3-0 after a second goal by Gorostiaga.

Sally Perez would get her first goal of the contest at the 32:34 mark of the first half and Khirsten Taylor getting on the board with 27:51 on the clock.

Perez would get her second goal of the half with 26:30 remaining.

Goodman would score her second point of the contest with 14:45 remaining followed by Sydney Delgadillo with 13:56 on the clock.

Terrionna Lambert would score the first of her two goals on the day at the 11:57 mark followed by a goal by Natalie Knight and a third goal by Perez to give her a “Hat Trick”. 

The Lady Billies would take a 12-0 lead by the end of the half after a final goal by Emma Parker.

The contest would begin under the “Sportsmanship Rule” in the second half with the half being cut to 20 minutes.

Lambert would put the Lady Billies 13th goal through the net with 36 seconds off the clock.

It would be Lambert’s second goal of the contest which is referred to as a “Brace”.

Goodman would be the next Lady Billie to record a “Hat Trick” in the contest with 17:40 remaining and with 13:18 on the clock would record her fourth goal of the contest which is referred to as a “Haul” in soccer terminology.

Gorostiaga would record her “Hat Trick” at the 8:40 mark and would then record a “Haul” with 6:56 on the clock.

The Lady Billies would get one more goal in the contest with 5:06 on the clock after Sally Perez recorded a “Haul” to give the Lady Billies the 18-0 win.

With The win, the Lady Billies moved to 1-0 in conference play and began the season with an overall record of 4-1-1 after posting wins against Hermitage, Lake Village, Hope, and now Mills and having tied Magnolia and losing to White Hall.

For the Billies, Eli Weaver would get the Billies on the scoreboard first in the contest against the Comets with a goal with 37:38 remaining in the half to give Monticello a 1-0 lead.

Little Rock Mills would get the next two goals of the contest, scoring goals at the 21:29 mark and with 18:20 on the clock to take a 2-1 lead.

Both defenses would hold each offense scoreless for the next 15 plus minutes.

Monticello would come back to tie the contest with 2:57 remaining in the half on a second goal by Weaver to put the contest at 2-2.

Returning from the half tied at two, Braden Bussell would give the Billies their second lead of the contest with 37:38 remaining in the contest on a goal to put the Billies up 3-2.

Monticello would extend their lead to 4-2 with 24:38 remaining in the contest after Emanual Luna would get on the scoreboard with his only goal of the contest.

The Billies would take a 5-2 lead with 16:10 on the clock after Weaver would upgrade his “Brace” to a “Hat Trick” with his third goal of the contest.

Little Rock Mills would get the next goal with 14:28 remaining to cut the Monticello lead to 5-3.

The Billies would get the final goal of the contest with 10:58 on the clock on a goal by Joseph Rojas to set up the game final of 6-3.

The Billies pick up their first conference win for a 1-0 record in conference and have an overall record of 3-3 having defeated Hermitage, Lake Village, and Mills and losing to White Hall, Magnolia, and Hope.

The Monticello and Lady Billies will return to Hyatt Field on Thursday, March 20 in a conference contest against eStem.

The Lady Billies will take the field at 5 pm with the Billes scheduled to take the field after the Lady Billies at 7 pm.

It will be the final contest before the Spring Break.
