The Monticello Lady Billies would host the Star City Lady Bulldogs on Thursday, January 22, at the Billie Arena after Friday’s scheduled contest was moved to Thursday night due to a winter storm moving through the area beginning on Friday evening.
Coming into the contest, the Lady Billies had won three consecutive contests, including two road conference contests with a 55-22 win over Hamburg, and a 67-61 win over Watson Chapel.
Star City would control the opening tip but it would be the Lady Billies that got on the board first on a jumper in the pain by Anniyah Smith.
Star City would score the next four points off of free throws.
The Lady Bulldogs would score their first eight points of the contest from the line going 8 of 8.
Monticello wou;d outscore Star City 10-8 in the first quarter.
Star City would take the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Billies by 15 points in the quarter, 20-5, to take a 28-25 lead at the half.
The Lady Billies would come back in the third quarter to outscore Star City 23-13 to pull within three points, 41-38, heading into the final quarter.
Monticello would pull within two points before Star City would go on a 9-0 run to eventually outscore the Lady Billies 17-7 in the fourth quarter to take the 58-45 victory.
Janiyah Goodman would lead the way for the Lady Billies with 16 points followed by Anniyah Smith with 14.
Zariyah Gaston and Chynna Daniels scored six, Sariyah McCoy with five, and Elisia Brown rounding out the scoring with two points.
