Lady Billies open conference with win over Hamburg

The Monticello Lady Billies began 8-4A Conference play this past Thursday, March 20, at home hosting the Hamburg Lady Lions.

For the Lady Billies, Monticello would get on the board in the bottom half of the first inning after back to back singles by Addi Frazer and Alaina Lyle would score Grace Ferguson for the first run of the contest.

Frazer, who started the contest in the circle for the Lady Billies, would get the Lady Lions out in order in the top of the second.

Macey Stell would lead off the bottom of the second inning with a triple followed by a single by Eden Greene to score Stell.

Hamburg would come back in the top of the third inning to score a single run to cut the lead to 2-1.

Kiley Lane led off the bottom of the third inning with a homerun to center field followed by a single by Bliss Becker.

After the first out of the inning, Stell would hit a sacrifice fly to score Becker and with two outs, Greene would connect on a solo shot to left field to give the Lady Billies a 5-1 lead.

Hamburg would get two runs in the top of the fourth.

Monticello would get four runs in the bottom of the inning after a single by Frazer, a triple by Lyle, a single by Lane, and a triple by Becker.

Skyler Burns would ground out but would get an RBI on a score by Becker to extend the Lady Billies lead to 9-3.

Hamburg would score single runs in the top of the fifth inning and the top of the sixth inning to cut the Lady Billie lead to 9-5.

Monticello would add the final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning after Frazer led off the inning with a solo homerun to give the Lady Billies a 10-5 win and their first win in conference play.

Kiley Lane, Addi Frazer, and Eden Greene would have home runs in the contest with Bliss Becker, Alaina Lyle, and Macey Stell recording triples.

Frazer would pitch the complete game allowing five runs on six hits with two of those runs being earned, while striking out nine batters. 

Monticello will return to play after Spring Break to host Magnolia on Monday at 5 pm.
