Lady Billies return from Spring Break with win over DeWitt

The Monticello Lady Billies would begin their Spring Break period, travelling to Hope, Arkansas on Friday, March 21, to begin play in the annual DMAC Tournament.

The Lady Billies would face Genoa Central in their first contest of the weekend and would send Alaina Lyle to the circle for the contest.

Lyle would get the first Lady Dragon batter to ground out followed by two consecutive strikeouts to end the inning.

The Lady Billies would get on the board in the bottom of the inning.

Halle Ross led off with a single followed by a single by Addi Frazer and Lyle loading the bases after reaching on an error.

Kiley Lane would connect for a double to score Ross and Frazer to take a 2-0 lead.

The two runs would be all the Lady Billies would need as Lyle would pitch the complete game allowing one run on two hits, striking out, and three walks as the Lady Billies took a 2-1 victory.

The Lady Billies would return to action on Saturday, March 22 , for the final two games of the DMAC.

First facing the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Billies would send Addi Frazer to the circle to face Greenwood.

The Lady Bulldogs would get on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Billies would tie the contest in the top of the second inning after a single by Bliss Becker was followed  by an RBI single by Grace Ferguson to knot the game at one.

The game would remain tied at one until the bottom of the sixth inning when Monticello would intentionally walk two batters with one out in the inning before giving up a walkoff single to give Greenwood a 2-1 win.

The Lady Billies would return later in the day to face the Malvern Lady Leopards in their final contest of the DMAC.

Malvern would score the first run of the contest in the top of the first inning on an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.

The lead would not last long as the Lady Billies came to life in the bottom of the inning.

Ferguson would lead off with a single followed by a single by Frazer.

Alaina Lyle would connect for a double to score Ferguson and Frazer.

After the first out of the inning, Bliss Becker would reach on an error with Macey Stell hitting a line drive to center for a single to score two runs.

After Eden Greene was hit by a pitch and the Lady Billies getting the second out of the inning, Ashlyn Snow would reach on an error to score two more runs for a 6-1 lead.

The final run came off a Ferguson single to score Snow to give the Lady Billies a 7-1 lead.

Malvern would get their second run of the contest in the top of the second followed by Alaina Lyle connecting for a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning for an 8-2 lead.

The final runs for the Lady Billies would come in the bottom of the third inning after a sacrifice fly by Snow would score Greene and a single by Frazer would score Rhyse Guthrie to set up the final of 10-2.

After the Spring Break period, the Lady Billies would return home to face the Dragonettes of DeWitt for the second time this season.

DeWitt would win their first contest in a game that was called after three innings due to weather with DeWitt being on top of the shortened contest 4-2.

After a scoreless first inning, and three consecutive strikeouts by Addi Frazer to retire the side, the Lady Billies would take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Kylie Lane led off the inning with a double followed by a single by Bliss Becker.

Grace Ferguson would have an RBI groundout that scored Lane to give the Lady Billies the 1-0 lead.

DeWitt would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning on back to back doubles for two runs and would increase their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a single run scored on a passed ball.

The Lady Billies would tie the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning after a single by Skylar Burns and Ashlyn Snow that would score pinch runner Nora Rodriguez on an error. Snow would later score on a wild pitch to tie the contest at three.

The Lady Billies would hold DeWitt scoreless in the top of the sixth and would take the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Lyle and Lane would record back to back singles before the first out of the inning.

Ferguson would reach on an error that would score pinch runner Mia Scogin to put MOnticello up 4-3.

Macey Stell would connect for a double to score Lane and Ferguson to put Monticello up 6-3.

Alaina Lyle who came in to pitch earlier in the contest for Addi Frazer would get the final three batters out after allowing a lead off walk to give the Lady Billies the 6-3 win.

Frazer would start in the circle for the Lady Billies, throwing four innings allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Lyle would throw three innings allowing one run on one hit, striking out four and walking two.

The Lady Billies would pick up their second 8-4A Conference win on Tuesday night, travelling to Watson Chapel.

The Lady Billies would record 21 hits in the contest while scoring 23 runs in the 23-1, three inning victory.

Macey Stell would pitch all three innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out five.

With the win, the Lady Billies improve to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Lady Billies will continue conference play, travelling to Star City to face the Lady Bulldogs on Friday, April 4, starting at 5 pm.
