The Monticello Lady Billies Soccer team got their season underway on Friday, February 28, at Hyatt Field, hosting the Hermitage Lady Hermits in a non conference contest.
Coming off the 2024 season that saw the Lady Billies advance to the 4A State Soccer Championship Tournament for the first time in several seasons under first year head coach, Zach Young, who was the 2024 8-4A Girls Soccer Coach of the Year.
Coming into the 2025 Season, the Lady Billies would be replacing their goalie from a season ago and is made up of a team of mostly underclassmen with only two seniors on the roster and also having three freshman players.
The team would get a goal early in the contest against Hermitage and would see two players record hat tricks, three goals by a single player, in the contest.
Freshman JaNiyah Goodman, who completed the basketball season on Wednesday, recorded three goals as did Maria Goro stiago.
Gorostigo’s goal that gave her a hat trick also cut the remaining time in the contest in half due to the Lady Billies going up by six goals to put the AAA Sportsmanship Rule into effect.
The Lady Billies would take the opening day win 6-0.
Monticello will return to Hyatt field on Thursday, March 6, hosting Hope at 5 pm, and on the road against Lake Village on Friday, March 7, at 5 pm.
