Lady Pirates advance to the 3A South Regional in Jessieville as third seed

The Drew Central Lady Pirates became the only area high school team to make the postseason with a third seed out of the 8-3A District Tournament held at Smackover this past week.

The Lady Pirates would enter the District Tournament as the third seed and would face Smackover in the second round of the tournament after a first round bye.

Against Smackover, the Lady Pirates would outscore the Lady Buckaroos 18-12 in the first quarter, 16-2 in the second for a 34-14 lead at the half.

The Lady Pirates continued to lead in the third quarter, outscoring Smackover 17-13 with Smackover outscoring Drew Central 9-2 in the fourth with the Lady Pirates taking the contest and advancing by the score of 53-36.

Amari Lucas led the Lady Pirates with 20 points followed by Sayveiona Durden with eight.

Bailey Chapman added seven, Chloe Anderson with six, and Kassidie Gilbert with four.

McKinzie Adcock and Jolie Lloyd each scored three with KZ Gipson scoring two.

In the semifinal contest held on February 15, the Lady Pirates would face the number two seed, the McGehee Lady Owls. 

It would be the third meeting between the two schools in the season with McGehee taking the two regular season games. 

In the semifinal contest, the Lady Owls would take a first quarter lead, outscoring the Lady Pirates 13-10 at the end of the quarter. 

In the second quarter, the teams would play an even quarter with both sides scoring 10 points with McGehee holding a three point, 23-20, lead at the half.

McGehee extended their lead to six points by the end of the third quarter, outscoring Drew Central 18-13 in the quarter.

Neither team could muster much offense in the fourth quarter with both teams scoring four points with McGehee taking the game 45-39.

Chloe Anderson led Drew Central with 15 points followed by Amari Lucas with 12.

KZ Gipson and Kassidie Gilbert scored four, Bailey Chapman with three, and Toni Fuller with one point.

The Lady Pirates will travel to Jessieville for the 3A-4a Regional Tournament to face the number two seed from the 3-7A, the Centerpoint Lady Knights. 

The Lady Pirates and Lady Knights are set to take to the court for an opening tip time of 4 pm at Jessieville.
