The Drew Central Lady Pirates have gotten off to a solid start to the 2024-25 basketball season, winning seven of their nine contests for an overall record of 7-2.
The Lady Pirates began the season on November 19 with a home win over the Crossett Lady Eagles.
In the contest, the Lady Pirates would have three players reach double-digits in scoring.
The Lady Pirates would outscore the Lady Eagles in all four quarters leading 15-7 after the first quarter then outscoring Crossett 21-9 nine in the second, 25-3 in the third, and 4-2 in the fourth for the 65-21 win.
Chloe Anderson led the way with 18 points followed by Amari Lucas with 16, and Makayla Miller with 13.
Bailey Chapman added eight, Toni Fuller with five, and Peyton Withers with two.
Caroline McRae, KZ Gipson, and Alexis Woods would round out the scoring with one point each.
The Lady Pirates would suffer their first loss in their second game in a competitive matchup with Junction City.
Drew Central would hold the lead after the first quarter 18-14 with Junction City holding the advantage at the half.
The Lady Pirates would get a three at the buzzer from Makayla Miller to pull within one, 27-26.
Junction City would score 21 third quarter points to Drew Central’s 11 to increase their lead to 48-37 heading into the fourth quarter.
Drew Central would come back in the fourth to outscore Junction City 22-13 in the final quarter but Junction City would hold on for a two point, 61-59, win.
Anderson would lead the way with 19 followed by Lucas with 16, and Makayla Miller with 13.
Chapman added five, Gipson with four, and Alexis Woods scoring two.
Returning against Dermott on November 22, the Lady Pirates would get back in the win column with a 51-28 victory over the Lady Rams.
Led by Anderson, who scored 21 points in the contest, the Lady Pirates would outscore Dermott in the first three quarters with Dermot taking the final quarter.
The Lady Pirates would travel to Fountain Lake for the Fountain Lake Thanksgiving Classic on November 25-26, for a pair of games.
The Lady Pirates would drop their first contest of the classic on November 25 in a 51-47 loss to Fountain Lake.
Drew Central would take a 31-17 lead at the halftime break after outscoring Fountain Lake 17-14 in the first and 14-3 in the second.
The game would take a turn in the second half as Fountain Lake would take the next two quarters 16-7 and 18-9 to comeback to defeat the Lady Pirates.
Anderson once again reached double-digits in scoring with 15 points.
The Lady Pirates would face Bauxite in their second contest of the classic on November 26.
Shooting 35 percent from the field for the contest, the Lady Pirates would take the first two quarters 11-7 and 12-10 for a 23-17 lead at the half.
Bauxite outscored Drew Central in the third 9-8 but the LadyPirates would outscore Bauxite 11-4 in the fourth to take the 12 point, 42-30, win.
Amari Lucas led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 16.
Since the Thanksgiving Classic, the Lady Pirates have extended their win streak to six contests.
The team has defeated Maumelle Charter 57-33, Warren 57-45, Star City 68-59, Alpena 60-42, and El Dorado by a score of 51-42.
Alpena and El Dorado were home games in the annual Mini-State Classic at Drew Central.
In the first 10 games of the season, the Lady Pirates have been led in total points by Chloe Anderson with a total of 145 points, closely followed by Amari Lucas who has scored a total of 134 points.
Rounding out the top four scorers on the team after 10 games are Makayla Miller with 92 points and Bailey Chapman with 71 points scored.
The Lady Pirates will travel to Rison on Friday, December 13, to face the Lady Wildcats.
