Lady Pirates fall to McGehee, finish third at 8-3A District Tournament

After closing out the 2024-25 regular season with a win over the DeWitt Lady Dragons at Drew Central, the Drew Central Lady Pirates would travel to McGehee for the 8-3A District Tournament as the second seed coming out of the regular season.

Earning a bye to the semi-final round and an automatic qualifying spot in the 3A-4 Regional Tournament, the Lady Pirates would have to wait to see who their semifinal opponent would be with McGehee making it to the semifinal round to face the Lady Pirates.

Neither team could gain the advantage in the first quarter with both teams scoring 13 points in the quarter.

The Lady Owls would take the lead in the second quarter after outscoring the Lady Pirates 15-11 to hold a 28-24 advantage heading into the locker room at the halftime break.

Drew Central would play the Lady Owls closer in the third quarter with McGehee outscoring Drew Central by one point in the quarter, 9-8, to hold a five point, 37-32, lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Both teams would score in double-digits in the fourth quarter with McGehee holding a three point advantage in the final quarter, 17-14, to take the 54-46 victory and advance to the finals.

Makayla Miller would lead the Lady Pirates in scoring with 19 points followed by Amari Lucas with 10. 

Bailey Chapman would add seven points, Toni Fuller with four, and KZ Gipson with three.

Chloe Anderson would finish with two points with Alexis Woods rounding out the scoring with one point.

The 8-3A will send four teams to the 3A-4 Regional Tournament with McGehee being the number one seed followed by Dumas as the second, Drew Central as the third, and Rison taking the fourth seed.

The Regional Tournament will be held at Centerpoint with games beginning on Wednesday, February 26, with the Lady Pirates facing Centerpoint on Thursday, February 27 at 7 pm.

Centerpoint finished as the second seed from the 3A-7 and will come into the contest with a 21-5 overall record. 

The Pirates will enter Thursday’s contest with an overall record of 22-7.

Drew Central must win one contest in order to qualify for the 3A State Basketball Championship Tournament.
