The Drew Central Lady Pirates entered the 3A-4 Regional Tournament this past week as the third seed coming out of the 8-3A District Tournament and would leave the Regional Tournament as the second seed from the region heading to the 3A State Basketball Championship Tournament this week in Osceola.
The Lady Pirates would face Genoa Central for their opening game in the Regional Tournament held at Drew Central and would find themselves down 6-0 after two consecutive three pointers by the Dragons.
The Lady would come back to make the quarter close with the Dragons leading 11-10 at the buzzer.
Drew Central would take the second quarter 7-2 to hold a 17-13 lead at the half.
The Lady Pirates would hold the Dragons to single-digit scoring for the remainder of the contest to advance to the semi-final contest against Dumas 52-20.
Chloe Anderson would lead the Lady Pirates in scoring with 15 with Caroline McRae also scoring in double-digits with 14.
Facing the number one seed Dumas in the semi-final contest, the Lady Pirates would fall behind in the first quarter, 17-9,
After the second quarter, Drew Central would trail the Lady Bobcats by 10 points after being outscored 10-7 for a 27-17 Dumas lead.
The game would swing Drew Central’s way in the second half as the Lady Pirates would outscore Dumas 18-7 in the third and 10-7 in the fourth for the 44-41 comeback victory to move on to the final against McGehee.
Amari Lucas would lead the way with 15 points and Chloe Anderson with 12.
In the final game on Saturday, the Lady Pirates would take the first quarter 12-8 with McGehee taking the second 13-8 for a one-point, 21-20, lead at the halftime break.
The third quarter would be the difference in the contest for the McGehee Lady Owls after outscoring the Lady Pirates 15-7 in the quarter.
Drew Central would outscore McGehee in the fourth, but it would not be enough to take the contest with McGehee taking the seven-point, 48-41 win.
The Lady Pirates will travel to Osceola as the second seed from the Fourth Region and will face the third seed From Region Two, the Manilla Lady Lions (27-6) on Wednesday, March 4, at 4 pm in the 3A State Tournament.
