Lady Pirates season ends after 14-1 loss to Genoa Central at 3A South Regional Tournament

The Drew Central Lady Pirates softball season ended on the bats of the Lady Dragons of Genoa Central on Thursday, May 8, in Ashdown at the 3A South regional Tournament.

Drew Central entered the tournament as the fourth seed from the 8-3A and would face Genoa Central, the number one seed out of the 7-3A in the Regional Tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Pirates would start the contest with a fly out but Bailey Chapman would become the first Lady Pirate to reach base in the contest, reaching first on an error by the left fielder that allowed her to advance all the way to second base.

The next two batters would ground out however to end the inning.

 Emma McRae would take the circle for the Lady Pirates and would hold the Lady Dragons scoreless in the bottom half of the inning with Genoa doing the same to the Lady Pirates in the top of the second.

The Lady Dragons would get two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-0 lead.

After another scoreless inning for the Lady Pirate offense, Genoa Central would come alive in the bottom of the third inning, scoring nine runs in the inning to increase their lead to 11-0.

Genoa’s pitching would continue to keep the Lady Pirates at bay, keeping the Lady Pirates once again from scoring in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Dragons would continue to add runs to their total, getting three more runs across the plate to increase their lead to 14-0.

Heading into the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Pirates would need to score five runs to keep the game going, however they would only manage to get one run across in the inning with Kinley Graves scoring the only Lady Pirate run as Genoa advanced 14-1.
