The Drew Central Lady Pirates closed out the regular season on Thursday, February 13, hosting the DeWitt Lady Dragons.
The Lady Pirates had lost two games in a row to start the month of February to Dumas and to McGehee with scorebook live dropping them to third in the conference after the losses.
Drew Central would travel to Lakeside on Tuesday, February 11, to face the Lady Beavers in a game that the Lady Pirates took control of early, outscoring Lakeside 26-8 in the first and 20-11 in the second to hold a 46-19 lead at halftime.
Drew Central would go on to take a 22 point, 58-36, victory.
Makayla Miller led the way with 14 points followed by Bailey Chapman and KZ Gipson with 10 points each.
Chloe Anderson added seven, Amari Lucas with six, and Kennedi Lambert with three.
Four other Lady Pirates finished with two apiece.
Hosting DeWitt, the Lady Pirates would once again get out to a fast start, outscoring the Lady Dragons 22-7 in the first quarter behind Makayla Miller’s 11 points.
Drew Central would outscore DeWitt 20-13 in the second quarter to take a 42-20 lead at the break.
The Lady Pirates would get to rest the starters for most of the second half for the second game in a row, allowing the bench players to get playing time and experience.
DeWitt would outscore Drew Central 10-8 in the third and 18-8 in the fourth with the Lady Pirates taking a 58-48 win.
Miller would once again lead the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard with 16 points followed by KZ Gipson with 11 and Chloe Anderson with 10.
The Lady Pirates moved up in the conference rankings with McGehee falling to third after a loss to Dumas with Drew Central moving back into second in the conference and will head into the 8-3A District Tournament as the second seed, automatically qualifying for the regional tournament.
Drew Central will play in the quarterfinals later this week.
