Lady Pirates start 2023 Basketball Season with consecutive wins

The Drew Central Lady Pirates tipped off the 2023-24 Basketball Season on Tuesday, November 14, traveling to Crossett to face the Lady Eagles.

Drew Central would edge out Crossett in the first quarter of play 15-13 but would trail at the half after Crossett took the second quarter 15-12 to hold a one-point, 28-27, lead at the half.

The Lady Pirates would take over the contest in the third quarter, holding the Lady Eagles to eight points in the quarter while scoring 21. 

The trend would continue in the fourth quarter as the Lady Pirates would once more hold the Lady Eagles to eight points in the quarter while scoring in double-digits with 15 points to take a 63-44 victory to begin the season with a victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Pirates was Amari Lucas with 16 points, 11 rebounds, one block, and five steals.

Bailey Chapman scored 11 points with two steals followed by Kassidie Gilbert with nine points and eight rebounds.

Kazyria Gipson finished with eight points and four rebounds. 

Kalyiah Miller with seven points, four rebounds, five steals, and three assists. 

Sayveiona Durden scored seven points with four assists, and two steals.

Chloe Anderson rounded out the scoring five points with two blocks and five rebounds.

The Lady Pirates returned home for their second game of the season, hosting the Junction City Lady Dragons. 

Amari Lucas would lead the Lady Pirates in the first quarter with eight points as the Lady Pirates outscored Junction City 17-6.

Drew Central would outscore Junction City 16-5 in the second quarter to take a 33-11 lead at the half.

The Lady Pirates would continue to lead throughout the second half with a running clock for the majority of the half. The Lady Pirates would go on to take the contest 51-17 for their second win of the season. 

Lucas would lead the team with 17 points followed by Sayveiona Durden scoring 12 and Chloe Anderson with nine.

Kazyria Gipson added six, Carla Vazquez with three, and Bailey Chapman with two.

Kalyiah Miller and Ryli Birch each scored one.

The Lady Pirates return to action December 1-2 at home for the Mini-State Classic.
