Lumberjacks comeback to defeat Billies 27-23 in fourth quarter

In what may go down in the history books of the Union Bank Saline River Shoot as an instant classic, the Warren Lumberjacks would erase a deficit to take a game winning lead with 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter to retain the Union Bank Saline River Shootout trophy on Friday night.

Warren would receive the ball to begin the contest after winning the opening coin toss. 

After advancing the ball to the Monticello 24, the bIllie defense would force the Lumberjacks to turn the ball over on downs.

On Monticello’s possession, the Billies would be forced to punt with Warren taking over on their own 25.

One pass from Jackson Denton to Jojo Steen for 75 yards would put the Lumberjacks on the board.

After the missed extra point Warren would lead 6-0.

After the Lumberjack kickoff, the Billies would take possession at their own 20.

Jackson Hines would connect on a pass to Joseph Accelus who would take off for an 80 yard score to tie the contest at six.

Monticello would take the lead to start the second quarter on a five yard run by Accelus and the extra point by Joseph Rojas to give the Billies a 13-6 lead.

Monticello would extend their lead to 16-6 on a field goal by Rojas but the Lumberjacks would pull within three points with 10 seconds remaining in the half after a one yard run by Aaron Davis and an extra point by Jacarlos Marquez to set up the 16-13 halftime score.

Monticello would extend their lead to 23-13 with 43 seconds remaining in the third quarter after a four yard run by Edardo Ramos and the extra point by Rojas.

Warren would cut the lead back to three to begin the fourth quarter on a 58 yard touchdown pass from Denton to Beyze Fellows and the extra point by Marquez.

Monticello would catch a fornate break with 5:18 remaining in the contest after Warren decided to attempt a field goal to tie the contest, but the Marquaez kick would bounce off the left post to allow Monticello to take over at their own 20 holding on to a three point lead.

Monticello would be forced to punt on the next possession with Warren taking over on their own 19 and after a false start penalty was moved back to the 14.

After two incomplete passes, Denton connected with Steen to the 41 and then to Davis to the 41.

With 1:14 remaining in the contest Denton would connect with Fellows for the 59 yard touchdown.

With the extra point Warren would lead 27-23 and after a last pass attempt by Monticello was intercepted by Steen, Warren would take the knee to retain the Saline River Shootout trophy.
