The Monticello Billies got the 2025 Baseball season underway on the road on Monday, March 3, at Woodlawn.
Woodlawn would get a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a double off of Jon Luke Brotherton who started on the mound for the Billies.
Woodlawn would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and a single run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Billies only run of the contest would be a run scored by Rohan Patel in the top of the fifth inning as the Billies fell 6-1.
Jackson Hines led the Billies going 2 for 4, Patel scored the only run going 1 for 2 with a walk.
Monticello would return home for their home opener on Thursday, March 6, hosting the Camden Fairview Cardinals.
Camden would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but Monticello would come back in the bottom of the inning to score a run, tying the contest.
Camden would add three runs in the top of the third with Monticello getting a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 4-2 but Camden added two more runs in the top of the fourth to increase the lead to 6-2.
The Billies would score one run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3.
Trailing heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Patel would single to give the billies their first runner of the inning.
Tripp Parker would draw a walk to put runners on first and second followed by a single by Hudson Harvey to load the bases.
Latyn Nichols would connect for a single to score two runs to cut the lead to 6-5.
Luke Hairston would draw a walk with Jerimiah Philley scoring to tie the contest at six on an error by the third baseman.
TK Hoover would single in the next at bat to score Nichols for the walkoff win, 7-6.
Brooks Harvey would record two hits in the contest, going 2 for 4.
Patel, Hudson Harvey, Nichols, Hairston, Hoover, and Bo Hammock would all record hits for the Billies.
Monticello would have a short turn-a-round, returning home on Friday, March 7, to host the McGehee Owls.
Hudson Harvey would get the call on the mound and after allowing a single and two walks, he would strike out the next three batters to get out of the inning without allowing a run.
Brooks Harver would lead things off for the BIllies with a walk and would advance to second on a passed ball.
The next two Billies would record strikeouts, with Patel connecting for a double to score Brooks Harvey to give the Billies a 1-0 lead.
Patel would advance to third on a wild pitch and would score before the final out was recorded on a passed ball to give the Billies a 2-0 lead.
McGehee would get a run back in the top of the second but the Billies would add two more in the bottom of the inning.
The Billies would extend their lead in the bottom of third after adding four runs to take an 8-1 lead.
McGehee added a single run in the top of the fourth inning, but in the bottom of the fifth, the Billies would get four more runs to put the AAA Sportsmanship Rule, ahead by 10 runs after the fourth inning.
Rohan Potel would lead the Billies going 2 for 2 with an RBI on a double, a walk, and scoring two runs.
Brooks Harvey and TK Hoover also provided a hit in the contest.
Hudson Harvey would would get the win, throwing three innings, striking out six,
Jaerimiah Philley would pitch two innings, striking out three.
The Billies travelled to Sheridan on Monday, March 10, to face the Yellowjackets.
After a scoreless first inning by both teams, Sheridan would get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs on four hits against Jon Luke Brotherton, with only two of those runs being earned.
Sheridan added four runs in the bottom of the third inning to increase their lead to 9-0.
Monticello would get on the board in the top of the fourth inning with four runs to cut the lead to 9-4 but Sheridan scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to 12-4.
Monticello added a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Sheridan would come back in the bottom of the inning to score four runs to end the game under the AAA Sportsmanship Rule, 16-5.
Nichols led the Billies in hitting, going 2 for 2 with a run and 2 RBI.
Brooks Harvey, Jackson Hines, Brotherton, and Hairston all recorded hits in the contest.
The Billies recorded six total hits in the contest.
The Billies will return home on Thursday, March 13, hosting White Hall in a non conference contest at 5 pm.
