Monticello Billies pick up second consecutive win at Dumas, 27-0

The Monticello Billies travelled to Dumas on Friday night for their final non conference contest of the season against the Dumas Bobcats.

The Billies would win the opening coin toss and would defer to the second half of play.

Dumas would advance the ball into Monticello territory on their first drive of the contest but the drive would come to halt when Jackson Hines intercepted Dumas quarterback Darnail Walker for the first turnover of the contest. 

Monticello would move the ball into Dumas territory after the turnover, but the Billies would be forced to punt the ball after a holding penalty moved the ball back to the Dumas 44.

Jagger Hines’ punt would be downed at the Dumas five.

On the first play of the drive, Monticello’s AJ Robinson would hit Rashad Moore in the endzone for a safety to put the Billies up 2-0.

After receiving the kickoff after the safety, they would begin their drive at their own 35 yard line.

Monticello would advance the ball down to Dumas 11 yard line before three penalties would push the Billies back to the Dumas 34.

Tye Guthrie would connect with Jax Rawls on the next pass to pick up the 34 yards and the touchdown.

Dumas would receive three offsides penalties on the extra point attempts allowing Joseph Accelus to give the Billies the two-point conversion for a 10-0 lead.

Monticello would add a second touchdown in the second quarter after beginning their drive on the Dumas 25 yard line with 3:25 remaining in the half.

Monticello would drive down to the Dumas two yard line where Jackson Hines would take the ball in for the two yard score with 1:31 on the clock.

Rojas added the extra point to give the Billies a 17-0 lead.

Monticello would receive the ball to begin the second half and would drive down the field with the drive stalling at the Dumas nine yard line where Joseph Rojas would add a field goal with 6:18 remaining in the third quarter to extend the Billie lead to 20-0.

Monticello would add one more score in the contest in the fourth quarter after a 17-yard run by Jayden Rhodes and an extra point by Rojas set up the final score of 27-0.

For the Billies, this would mark the first shutout of the season as the BIllies improved to 2-1 on the season.

The Billies defense would get three interceptions in the contest.

The first score of the contest was also a defensive play with the safety by AJ Robinson. 

The Billie defense also limited the Bobcats to just a few drives that went into Monticello territory.

Tye Guthrie would finish the contest going 11 for 14 for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Joseph Accelus led in rushing with 16 carries for 116 yards followed by Zaedin Jones with 20 carries for 76 yards.

Jayden Jones added 17 rushing yards and a touchdown as well as leading in receiving yards with 50.

Jax Rawls added 37 reception yards with a touchdown.

Monticello will now enter 8-4A Conference play, hosting the Hamburg Lions at Hyatt Field on Friday, September 27, with a 7 pm kickoff scheduled.
