Monticello Billies season ends in first round of Regional Tournament

The Monticello Billies season ended this past Thursday in the first round of the 4A South Regional Tournament held in DeQueen.

The Billies, who entered as the number three seed from the 8-4A would face the number two seed from the 7-4A in the Nashville Scrappers.

Being the visiting team as the lower seed, Monticello would go down in order to begin the contest. 

Hudson Harvey would take the mound in the bottom of the first inning for the Billies and would walk the first batter he faced with the second batter reaching on an error, placing runners on first and second. 

After the first out of the inning, a single would load the bases followed by a sacrifice fly to give the Scrappers a 1-0 lead.

Nashville would get a second run in the inning on a single to take a 2-0 lead.

After a second three up, three down inning by the Billies, Nashville would also go down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Rohan Patel would lead off the top of the third with a walk followed by a walk to Jon Luke Brotherton.

Luke Hairston would bunt and reach first with Patel being out at third. Brooks Harvey reached on an error followed by a fly out by Blaine Hayden that scored two.

The Billies would add two more runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Monticello added a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Nashville would score five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.

The Billies would add another run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the Scrapper lead to 7-6, but Nashville would get the run back in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 8-6.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Billies would lead off with an out followed by Patel being hit by a pitch and a single by Brotherton. 

Patel would score on a wild pitch, but the Billies next two batters would strikeout as Nashville would advance in the tournament 8-7.
