The Drew Central Pirates dropped two consecutive non conference contests this past week before entering back into conference play on Friday night hosting McGehee.
On Monday, April 6, the Pirates would travel to Woodlawn to face the Bears.
After a scoreless first inning, the Bears would hold the Pirates scoreless in the top of the second inning and would get out to a big lead in the bottom of the second inning after scoring 12 runs.
Woodlawn would hold the Pirates to three hits and zero runs while scoring four more runs in the contest for a 15-0 win.
The Pirates would travel to Smackover on Thursday, April 9, to face the Buckaroos for the second time this season.
Smackover had held the Pirates hitless in their first game, defeating the Pirates 10-0.
In the rematch, Smackover would score three runs in the bottom of the first with the Pirates getting a run back in the top of the second but Smackover would add two more runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Pirates would pull within a run in the top of the third inning after scoring three runs to cut the lead to 5-4.
Smackover would add a run in the bottom of the fourth, and three in the bottom of the fifth with Drew Central adding a run in the top of the sixth inning before Smackover would get two final runs in the bottom of the sixth to set up the 11-5 win, handing the Pirates consecutive losses.
Returning home on Friday, April 10, hosting the McGehee Owls in an 8-3A Conference matchup, the Pirates would send Hunter Griffin to the mound to start the contest.
McGehee would lead off with a walk before Griffin recorded two consecutive strikeouts.
McGehee would get on the board on an error on the next play to take a 1-0 lead before a third strikeout by Griffin.
Cade Smith led off the bottom of the inning with a single but would be stranded on the base paths.
Neither team could get their offense going with Drew Central recording four hits with McGehee also recording four hits/
Griffin would pitch 6.1 innings and would strike out 13 batters in the loss.
The Pirates will face Dumas at home on Monday, April 20, with a 4:30 pm start time and Bearden on Thursday with a first pitch scheduled for 5 pm.
