Pirates eliminated in first round of 3A State Championship Tournamen

The Drew Central Pirates entered the 3A State Championship Basketball Tournament in Lamar, Arkansas as the second seed out of the 3A Region 4 tournament. 

The first quarter would be close as the Bergman Tigers would edge out the Pirates 11-9 in the quarter. 

Bergman would increase their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Pirates 17-11 in the quarter to take a halftime lead over the Pirates 28-20.

Returning from the half, the teams would have a competitive third quarter of play with the Tigers edging the Pirates by one point in the quarter, 15-14, in the quarter to hold a nine point, 43-34, advantage heading into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth, the Pirate offense would drop off as the Tigers doubled up the Pirates in the quarter, 22-11, to take the 20-point, 65-45, victory eliminating the Pirates from the 3A State Basketball Championship Tournament.

Bergman would go on to win their side of the tournament bracket and will face Manila, who defeated the Dumas Bobcats, in the 3A State Championship on Hot Springs on Saturday, March 11, at 7:45 PM.

Leading the Pirates in scoring against Bergman was Tramond Miller with 26 points followed by Tralon Miller with 10 points. 

Ja’Corrian Love would add three points with David Jordan and Will Watson scoring two points each. 

Drew Burton and Alex Preddy would round out the Pirate scoring by scoring one point each.

With the loss, the Pirates finished the season with an overall record of 21-12 with a 10-4 8-3A Conference record finishing second in the regular season, second in district, and second in the regional.
