Pirates enter 8-3A District Tournament in McGehee as third seed

The Drew Central Pirates played their final two regular season contests this past week, travelling to Lakeside to face the Beavers on Tuesday, February 11, and would end the regular season at home against the DeWitt Dragons on Thursday, February 13.

drew Central would take a10 point lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Beavers 16-6 and would follow by outscoring Lakeside 10-9 in the second to hold a 26-15 lead at the half.

Each team would score over 20 points in the third quarter with Lakeside outscoring the Pirates 26-25 in the quarter with Drew Central maintaining a 10 point, 51-41, lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Pirates would come back to outscore Lakeside 19-17 in the fourth quarter to secure the 12 point, 70-58, victory.

Tra’Bennett Fuller would lead the way for the Pirates with 19 points followed by Alex Preddy with 17.

Blake Chandler added 15, Jeremiah Bodiford with 11, and Zae Bullard with six.

Uriah Rhodes rounded out the scoring with two points.

Returning home on Thursday night for Senior Night, the DeWitt Dragons take a two point advantage in the first quarter, outscoring the Pirates 12-10.

The Pirates would take control of the contest in the second quarter, outscoring the Dragons 20-6 to take a 30-18 lead at halftime.

The Pirates would continue their momentum in the third quarter outscoring DeWitt 23-6 in the third for a 53-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

DeWitt would outscore Drew Central in the fourth who had sit their starters. 

The Dragons would take the final quarter 14-7 with the Pirates taking the 60-38 win.

With the win, Drew Central, Dumas, and Helena all finish with a conference record of 9-3 but because of the tie breakers, Dumas will enter the District Tournament as the one seed, Helena the second, and Drew Central as the third.

The Pirates will face Rison on Wednesday in McGehee at 8:30.
