The Drew Central Pirates returned home for the first time this season after being on the road for their AAA Benefit contest at Hamburg and opening the season on the road in Smackover in a 35-14 loss.
The Pirates would welcome the England Lions to Mike Pennington Stadium for a non conference contest for their first home game of the season.
The Pirates would win the coin toss and would elect to receive the football to begin the game.
England’s Jose Meija would kick the ball away to get the contest underway with the Pirates possession at their own 34 yard line.
On the first play from Scrimmage, Tre’Bennett Fuller would take off for a 41 yard gain down to the England 25 yard line.
After a run for no gain, an offside penalty against England moved the ball to the England 20.
Fuller would move the ball to the 13 followed by a run to the four and would cap the drive with a four yard touchdown run.
Hunter Griffin’s kick was no good as the Pirates led 6-0 with 10:04 remaining in the first quarter.
ENgland would start their first possession of the contest at their own 48 yard line and quickly moved to the Pirate 27 after a pass completion from Jordan Palmer to Jayquan Mays.
After advancing the ball to the Pirate 5, Palmer would connect with May for the Lion touchdown.
Mason Guess would add the two-point conversion to give the Lions an 8-6 lead with 6:22 remaining in the first.
England would force a fumble on the kickoff, with the Pirates losing the ball at their own 32 yard line with England’s Joel Miller recovering the loose ball.
England would advance the ball to the Pirate 14 but a holding penalty would force the ball back to the Pirate 24.
After two incomplete passes, Palmer would be intercepted byBernard Pitts at the Pirate five.
Drew Central’s possession would extend into the second quarter with the Pirates moving into England teritory to the 48 to end the first quarter.
Jayden Jones would move the ball down to the England 18 on a 30 yard gain on the first play of the second quarter.
After a three yard run by Tyviance Wormley to the England 15, Fuller would take the ball the final 15 yards for the Pirate score.
The two-point conversion was not successful as the Pirates pulled ahead 12-8 with 10:36 remaining in the half.
The Pirates would force a second turnover on the kickoff as England would fumble the football on the return with Kabrin Collins covering the ball at England eight.
Jayden Jones would move the ball to the two and after a one-yard loss on the next play, Wormley would get teh ball and push it across the goal for the three yard run for the score.
Fuller would convert the two-point play to increase the Pirate lead to 20-8 with 9:03 remaining in the half.
The Pirates would get their third turnover of the contest on the next Lion possession with Pitts getting his second interception of the contest at the England 40, advancing the ball down to the England one yard line, but a block in the back penalty against the Pirates on the return would bring the ball back to the England 18.
An offsides call against the Lions advanced the ball to the 13, but a Pirates fumble in which the Pirates recovered moved the ball back to the England 24.
On the next play, Fuller would connect with Blake Chandler in the endzone on the 24 yard pass for the Pirate touchdown.
Griffin’s kick was good as the Pirates increased their lead to 27-8 with 7:10 remaining in the half.
England would get back on the scoreboard on their next possession on a 26 yard pass from Palmer to Jarvis Drayer.
Guess added the two-point conversion to cut the Pirate lead to 27-16 with a small altercation after the conversion that forced the officials two have a discussion with the two players involved.
A second altercation would happen on the kickoff after the score.
On the kickoff return an incident that would see yellow flags flying, offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties, an ejection of both a Pirate player and an England player would halt the contest for a few minutes with the Pirates maintaining control of the ball at their own 24.
Wormley would advance the ball to the Pirate 48.
Fuller would advance the ball to the England 25 but a holding call against the Pirates would bring the ball back to the Pirate 39.
Wormley would get the ball back into Lion territory to the England 40.
Fuller would advance the ball to the England 15 on the next two carries, and would then lose yardage on a sack back to the England 30.
Wormlet would get the call next, covering the 30 yards for the Pirate touchdown on a pass from Fuller.
After the missed extra point, the Pirates would take a 33-16 lead at the half.
The Pirates would kick the ball off to begin the second half and would force the Lions to turn the ball over on downs at the Pirate 38.
England would get a turnover on the Pirate possession after Fuller was intercepted by Palmer but the Pirate defense would force the Lions to punt the ball away with Blake Chandler taking the punt at the England 45, returning the punt for a Pirate touchdown.
Griffin added the extra point to increase the lead to 40-16.
The Pirates would get their fourth turnover of the contest after Palmer’s pass would be intercepted by Jordan Smith at the England 34 and would return the ball down to the England 17.
Fuller would complete a pass to Zae Bullard for a yard to the 16 followed by a two yard run by Wormley that had a five yard facemask penalty against England to move the ball to the England nine where Fuller would take it in for the final score of the contest.
After the missed extra point, the Pirates took a 46-16 lead.
ENgland would begin their next drive from their own 30 yard line and moved the ball to the 50 yard line, but with 45 seconds remaining in the third quarter, a fourth incident would occur that spilled over into the England sidelines.
After seperating the teams, and a deliberation by the officials, coaching staffs, and each school’s admin personnel it was determined that the correct course of action would be to call a halt to the contest after a player from England and a player from Drew Central being ejected from the contest with the Pirates taking the contest by the final score of 46-16.
The Pirates will return to action at Mike Pennington Stadium on Friday, September 12, hosting the Central Cougar from West Helena.
Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
