The Drew Central Pirates opened the 2025 Baseball season at home on Thursday, March 6, hosting the Hermitage Hermits.
Hunter Griffin would get the start for the Pirates but would not make it through the inning after allowing four runs in one-third of an inning.
Jordan Jones would come in for relief, pitching 1.2 innings allowing one hit, striking out three and walking one before being relieved by Jacob Jones who would pitch the remaining five innings.
Griffin would lead off for the Pirates in the bottom of the first recording a single followed by a single by Jon Lawrenz.
The Pirates would score four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the contest at four.
After holding the Hermits scoreless in the top of the second, the Pirates would add three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-4 lead.
Neither team would produce a run in the next two innings with the Hermits putting two runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning to pull within a run, 7-6.
The Pirates would hold the Hermits scoreless in their next two innings to take the 7-6 win.
Lawrenz would lead the Pirates at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a walk, scoring two runs and recording a triple.
Hunter Griffin and Brailyn Moore would also record hits in the contest.
Drew Central would travel to Hamburg for their second contest of the season.
The Pirates would get a two run lead in the top of the second with Hamburg tying the game in the bottom of the inning.
Hamburg would take the lead in the bottom of the third by a run with the Pirates tying the game in the top of the fourth.
Hamburg would score four runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 10-3 win over seven innings.
The Pirates will return home on Thursday, March 13, hosting Camden Harmony Grove at 4:30 pm before travelling to face the Rison Wildcats on Friday, March 7, at 4:30 pm in the first conference contest of the season.
