The Drew Central Pirates were able to get back into the win column in 8-3A Conference play on Monday night with a 15-0 win over the Dumas Bobcats.
Before Monday, the Pirates had lost three consecutive conference contests.
The first loss came at home on Friday, April 10, in a 1-0 loss to the McGehee Owls after the Owls scored their only run in the top of the first inning on an error.
The Pirates would host the DeWitt Dragons on Tuesday, April 14.
Hunter Griffin would take the mound for the Pirates and would get the first three Dragon batters out in order.
Cade Smith would lead off the Pirate inning with a single followed by a fly out and a single by Griffin.
The runners would be stranded on the base paths after DeWitt recorded the next two outs.
DeWitt would have their first baserunner in the top of the second but would leave him stranded on the bases.
DeWitt would get their first scoring opportunity in the top of the third inning after loading the bases with two outs, but Griffin would get the batter to ground out to Jordan Jones to end the inning.
DeWitt would break the scoreless run in the top of the fifth.
Jones would take the mound for the Pirates and would get the first two batters to fly out and ground out before allowing a walk and a single that scored the Dragons runner that gave the Dragons the 1-0 lead.
The Pirate offense would continue to struggle for the remainder of the contest with the Pirates going down in order in each of the last three innings to give DeWitt the 1-0 win.
The Pirates’ offense continued to struggle on Friday, April 17, on the road at Rison.
Jones would start on the mound for the Pirates after the Pirates left Braylin Moore stranded on the bases after Moore reached on a double.
Jones would allow four runs in the bottom of the first inning and after Trent Burton was left on the bases in the top of the second after connecting for a double, Jones would walk the first Wildcat batter in the bottom of the second with Cade Smith taking over pitching duties.
The Wildcats would score five runs in the inning to take a 9-0 lead.
Neither team would cross home plate the next three innings with Rison scoring the game winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the 10-0 “Run Rule” win.
The Pirates would return home on Monday night to face the Dumas Bobcats and would send Smith to the mound.
Smith would pitch the complete three inning contest, throwing three hitless innings for the Pirates and striking out seven batters.
Drew Central would score 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning and would get three in the bottom of the second.
Smith would get Dumas out in order in the top of the third to get the “15 Run Rule” win, snapping the Pirates five game overall losing streak.
The Pirates will host Bearden on Thursday at 5 pm.
