The Drew Central Pirates would play two games as a part of the annual Commercial Bank Holiday Tournament with the first contest being played on Friday, December 27, against the Hamburg Lions with the second contest being against the White Hall Bulldogs on Saturday, December 28.
In what was one of the games of not only the day but the entire tournament, the Pirates and Lions would play an even first quarter with both teams scoring 12 points in the quarter.
Hamburg would take the advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Pirates 18-11 in the quarter to take a 30-23 lead at the half.
Drew Central would cut into the Hamburg lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 21-17 to trail 47-44 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pirates would keep their third quarter momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hamburg 20-17 in the fourth quarter to leave the game tied at 64 to force an overtime period.
In the overtime period, the Pirates would score four points on their way to outscoring the Lions 13-10 to take the contest 77-74.
Blake Chandler would lead the way with 33 points, shooting 50% (5-10) from the three-point arch and 55% (10-18) in field goals as well as connecting on 8 of 11 from the free throw line for 72%.
Tre’Bennett Fuller would score 23 followed by Zae Bullard with seven.
Alex Preddy finished with six, Jeremiah Bodiford with five, Brody James Carter with two, and Torian Struggs with one.
In their second contest on Saturday, the Pirates would be led by Alex Preddy with 12 points but the Pirates would fall behind early as the White Hall Bulldogs would outscore the Pirates in every quarter to take a 71-35 victory.
The Pirates are scheduled to play their first contest of the 2025 portion of the season on Friday, January 3, hosting Parkers Chapel with a scheduled start around 7 pm.
