Returning to the Drew Central Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 20, to host the DeWitt Dragons, the Drew Central Pirates would be looking to get back in the win column after suffering their first conference loss the previous Friday on the road at Lakeside, 57-56.
The Pirates would find themselves trailing by six points to begin the contest after Dewitt outscored the Pirates 18-12 in the first quarter.
Drew Central’s Spencer Lowery would score five of his eight total points in the second quarter to help the Pirates outscore the Dragons 13-12 in the quarter with DeWitt still maintaining a five-point, 30-25, lead going into the locker room at the halftime break.
The Dragons would hit a scoring slump in the third quarter coming out of the half.
Drew Central’s Blake Chandler would lead the Pirates in Scoring in the third quarter with six points with the Pirates take the quarter 14-4 to take a five point swing on the scoreboard to lead 39-35 heading into the fourth quarter.
DeWitt would come back in the fourth quarter and would hold a one-point lead, 51-50, with 1:03 remaining in the contest.
Benjamin Fuller would connect on a corner three-pointer with 52 seconds remaining in the contest to put the Pirates up by two.
DeWitt would pull within one point, but Drew Central would seal the contest with a freethrow by Zae Bullard to take the 54-52 win.
Tra’Bennett Fuller would lead the Pirates in scoring with 15 points.
Fuller would lead the Pirates for the second consecutive game on Thursday night with 21 points in a 21-point victory at home over the Helena-West Helena Cougars, 78-57.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return home on February 3 hosting Dumas with the junior girls starting at 5 pm.
