The Drew Central Junior Pirates welcomed the Rison Junior Wildcats to Mike Pennington Stadium on Thursday, October 17, for a Junior 8-3A Conference matchup.
Rison would win the coin toss and elected to receive the football to begin the contest with Cam Sanders kicking the ball to the Rison 25 and the Junior Wildcats getting a 15 yard return to start at their own 40.
The Junior Wildcats would reach the Pirate 48 before a penalty would push them back to their own 47 where they would turn the ball over on downs.
The Junior Pirates would turn the ball over on a fumble on their first possession of the contest but would force Rison to turn the ball over on downs early in the second quarter.
On their first drive of the second quarter, Ky’un Jacobs would get the ball into Rison territory with a 14 yard run to the 42.
Jase Cruce would run down to the 33 with Jacobs covering the 33 yards on the next carry for the touchdown for a 6-0 lead.
Rison would come back on their next possession to take the lead on a touchdown and two-point conversion to go up 8-6 with 22 seconds remaining in the half.
The Junior Pirates retook the lead to begin the third quarter on a 42 yard touchdown pass from Cruce to Sanders for the 12-8 lead.
Ayden Cochran would recover a fumble on the kickoff to give the Junior Pirates possession on the Rison 36.
After an 11 yard pass from Cruce to Ashton Govan, Cruce would connect with Govan again a few plays later for a 25 yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 18-8.
Rison would cut the lead to 18-16 with a touchdown and two-point conversion to start the fourth quarter.
Rison would face a fourth down with seconds remaining in the contest when they scored the go ahead score with a two-point conversion with 20 seconds remaining on the clock to take the contest 24-18.
