Sixteen Weevils earn All-GAC Postseason conference honors

With the 2024 UAM football season ending with a loss to Southern Arkansas in the annual “Battle of the Timberlands” in the final contest of the season, the 4-7 Weevils would officially end their 2024 campaign with 16 Weevil players receiving All-GAC (great American Conference) honors.

UAM would have one player being an All-GAC Second Team selection with Senior Wide Receiver Isaiah Cross receiving the honor.

Cross would complete his final season at UAM with 41 receptions for 459 yards and a touchdown. 

Cross would average 13.6 reception yards per catch.

Cross finishes his career at UAM with 123 receptions for 1669 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Weevils would have seven players selected for All-GAC Third Team honors.

Sixth year senior Demilion Brown would add a third team selection to a season that saw Brown move into the top five in many career passing records and break career records for rushing touchdowns and yards per carry at UAM. 

Joining Brown was Sophomore Defensive Tackle and Monticello native, Kieth Wells Jr. 

Wells, a former MOnticello Billie standout, completed his sophomore season with 25 tackles with two tackles for a loss and a sack.

Senior Alferenee Hankins completed his senior season with 21 tackles with six tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. 

Hankins finishes his career at UAM with 124 tackles and 13.5 sacks. Hankins also recorded one interception and two fumble recoveries in his career.

DeShawn Leonard was a junior center playing in his first season as a Weevil.

Leonard recorded one defensive tackle.

Kendall Walker was selected for his senior play as an Offensive Lineman.

Robert Iverson Jr., a Junior Outside Linebacker would record 65 tackles with 2.5 sacks in his first year as a Weevil. 

J’Waun Turner, a Sophomore Safety/Tightend would play on both sides of the ball in 2024, becoming the go to tight end after an injury sidelined Josh Dixon for the remainder of the season during the contest at OUachita Baptist.

Turner would record 94 receiving yards on six receptions.

On defense, Turner recorded four tackles and would record a fumble recovery.

Turner would also record four kickoff returns for 65 yards.

Ndubuisi Nwankwo is a junior  mathematics and data analysis major that earned honors as a GAC Elite Scholar Student-Athlete.

The Weevils would also see eight players earning GAC Academic Honor Roll honors

Among the eight players were Junior Wide Receiver Ja’Kell Allen, Senior Defensive Lineman Tevontae Bond, Redshirt Sophomore Linebacker Caden Dominey, Junior Offensive Lineman Derius Franklin, Junior Running Back Tyler Reed, Junior Kicker/Punter Tanner Steenbock, Senior Offensive Lineman Kendall Walker, and Senior Offensive Lineman Ryan Williams.

The Weevils finished the 2024 season with a 4-7 record, a two win improvement from the 2023 campaign. 

Head Coach Hud Jackson completes his 13th season as the Head Weevil with a career record of 48-95.

Jackson has one of the longest head coaching tenures at the UAM.
