Softball Blossoms pick up final home series win of the season

The UAM Blossoms wrapped up the home portion of the 2025 Softball season this past week with a three game series against East Central University before Easter Weekend.

Starting the series on Thursday, April 17, with game one starting at 2 pm followed by the second part of the double-header, the Blossoms would have Kyann Woods to circle.

After a scoreless first inning, East Central would get on the board in the top of the second inning, but the Blossoms would come back to take the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

The score would remain 2-1 over the next several innings until the top of the seventh inning when East Central scored six runs to pull ahead 7-2.

East Central would hold the Blossoms scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to take game one of the double-header.

Kayla Olthouse, who came in for relief for Kyann Woods, was given the loss in the contest after allowing five runs on five hits in 2.1 innings. 

Jaydn Hart led the Blossoms at the plate going 2 for 2 with a run scored and a walk. Dacia Sexton and Kyan Woods each recorded an RBI in the contest.

Ronnie Johnson would enter the circle in the second game of the day for the Blossoms.

Johnson would allow two baserunners in the inning with both reaching on walks, but East Central could not get the runners across the plate.

The Blossoms would get a run across in the bottom of the first inning after Dacia Sexton scored on a wild pitch to give the Blossoms a 1-0 lead.

After another scoreless inning by East Central, the Blossoms added another run in the bottom of the second inning.

After recording the first two outs, East Central would give up a double to Lauren Spoon followed by a walk to Kammie Walker.

Maddie Pfleging singled up the middle to score Spoon to give the Blossoms the 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, East Central would tie the contest in the top of the fourth inning after two runs in the inning.

The Blossoms would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Pfleging led off the inning with a walk with Emmy Apodaca coming into the contest to pinch run for Pfleging.

After the first out of the inning, Kyann Woods singled up the middle to score Apodaca who had advanced to second on a steal.

Sophie Wood would connect for a double to score Kyan Woods to give the Blossoms a 4-2 lead.

Johnson would continue to pitch for the remainder of the contest, holding East Central scoreless in the final innings to take the 4-2 win.

Johnson improved to 4-4 on the season with the win. 

Dacia Sexton and Lauren Spoon would each go 1 for 3 in the contest with a run scored.

The Blossoms and East Central would return for the final game of the series on Friday, April 18, on Senior Day.

Makenzie Martin would get the start for the Blossoms and would stay in the circle for 6.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits, walking three and striking out two.

East Central would score a single run in the top of the first inning with the Blossoms scoring a run in the bottom of the inning on a double by Sophie Wood to score Lainey Tippen to tie the contest 1-1.

Wood would give the Blossoms the lead in the bottom of the third on a solo shot to left field to get the 2-1 score.

Dacia Sexton would double in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Vyanna Quezada to increase the lead to 3-1.

Wood would add another RBI to her stat sheet in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single to score Jade Keaton for a 4-1 lead.

East Central would come back in the top of the seventh inning to score four runs to take the lead in the contest 5-4.

Cada Collins led off the bottom of the seventh for the Blossoms with a single followed by a double by Makenzie Martin to advance Collins to third.

Emmy Apocada would pinch run for Martin.

After the first out of the inning, Jadyn Hart would draw a walk to load the bases.

Pfleging would connect on a single up the middle of the field to score Collins and Martin to take the 6-5 win securing the series.

Kayla Olthouse would be awarded the win in the contest, improving her record to 4-6 on the season.

Sophie Wood would lead the Blossoms at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, with a run scored and 3 RBI.

With the win, the Blossoms improved their record to 17-28 overall and 11-19 in Great American Conference play.

The Blossoms will finish the regular season in Bethany, Oklahoma, facing Southern Nazarene who are currently fourth in the conference standings having secured a tournament berth.

UAM is currently ninth in the standings with a tournament berth in the final three games of the season with two spots in the tournament yet to be secured.
