Star City hands the Drew Central Pirates their first loss of the season

The Star City Bulldogs handed the Drew Central Pirates their first blemish of the 2025-26 season on Thursday night. 

The Pirates began the 2025-26 season with a 72-49 win over the Wynne Yellowjackets on December 1, and returned on December 2 with a 57-53 win over Riverview at the DeWitt Classic.

The Pirates would return home to host Star City on December 4 for their home opener. 

The Pirates would control the opening tip and would get on the board first after Tre’Bennett Fuller connected on 1 of 2 from the freethrow line. 

Jeremiah Bodiford added a pair of free throws to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

The teams would play the quarter even after both teams scored 13 points.

Star City would outscore the Pirates in the second quarter 13-9 to hold a 26-22 lead at the half.

The Pirates would take the lead with 4:21 remaining in the quarter on a three by Blake Chandler but the Bulldogs would score the next six points and would take the quarter 15-12 to hold a 41-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the teams would match each other in points with both teams scoring 13 with Star City handing the Pirates their first loss of the season 54-47.

The Pirates would get back in the win column on friday night in their first game of the Mini State Classic, hosting Alpena.

The Pirates would score in double-digits in all four quarters against the Leopards, 17-8, 13-8, 17-7, and 14-6 for the 61-29 win.

The Pirates would return on Saturday, December 6, for the final game of the Mini State Classic against the Lake Arthur Tigers.

The Pirates would trail 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and 34-30 at the half.

The Pirates would outscore the Tigers 21-9 in the third and 14-3 in the fourth quarter to secure their fourth win of the season t o improve to 4-1 on the season and will host Rison on Friday.
