The 2025 Billie Football season is officially underway with the first official contest in the books.
The Monticello Billies opened the 2025 season hosting the Fordyce Redbugs to Hyatt Field on Friday, August 29.
The Redbugs came into Hyatt Field as a top pick to finish at the top of the 8-3A Conference and are a top contender to compete for the 3A State Championship after making it to the semi-finals in 2024.
Fordyce would win the coin toss and would defer to the second half.
The Billies began the opening drive from their own 23 yard line after a 10 yard kickoff return by Jackson Hines.
The Billies would be able to get on the scoreboard on their first drive after a one yard run by Junior Joseph Accelus.
The extra point attempt would fail after a bzd snap forced the attempt into a two-point try that was stopped to give the Billies a 6-0 lead.
Fordyce would advance the ball into Monticello territory on their first possession, getting the ball down to the MOnticello 29 before an incomplete pass would end the Redbug drive on downs.
Accelus would get his second touchdown of the contest on a 71 yard run.
The two-point attempt was stopped with Monticello leading 12-0.
Fordyce would score twice before the end of the half to take a 14-12 lead at the half.
Fordyce would increase the lead to 20-12 on their opening possession of the second half, but the Billies would pull back within two points, 20-18, on an 18 yard pass from Hudson Harvey to Jayden Rhodes.
Fordyce would increase the lead to 27-18 to begin the fourth quarter and would put the score out of reach after two pick six passes, one returned for 88 yards and another for 45 to increase the lead to 39-18 with 10:20 remaining.
After a third interception, the Redbugs would put the final score on the board for a 46-18 win.
The Billies will face Bauxite on Friday at Bauxite at 7 pm.
