UAM hosts first ever Blossom Classic volleyball tournament

The University of Arkansas at Monticello officially got the 2023 Volleyball season underway on Friday, September 1, with the first ever Blossom Classic held at Steelman Fieldhouse.

The inaugural tournament consisted of five schools, UAM, Truman State University, Christian Brothers University, Northern State University and Maryville University and was hosted by Monticello Coffee Company.

Opening the tournament, Maryville fell to Christian Brothers 3 sets to 0 in the 9 am contest.

The Blossoms would take to the court at 11 am with their first official contest of the season, facing off with Truman State University.

In set one, Truman would get the first three points before UAM got on the board. 

UAM came back to tie the score at three with the next three points.

The score would remain close until Truman went on a six-point run to go up 17-8 before eventually taking the set 25-12.

Truman scored the first four points of the second set and would go on to outscore the Blossoms 25-18 for the set win. 

In the third and final set, Truman tied the contest at five after UAM scored the first five points.

The Lady Bulldogs went on to take the set by 10, 25-15, to secure the match.

UAM returned on Friday evening to face Northern State University, also falling in the match in three straight sets. 

Northern took the sets by scores af 25-17, 25-11, and 25-10.

In their Saturday morning contest against Maryville University, the Blossoms would fall 25-15. 25-20, and 25-10 in three sets to the Lady Saints and would return that evening to fall in consecutive sets to Christian Brothers University by scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-21 to begin the season 0-4.

The Blossoms will be on the road for their next five contests before returning to Steelman Fieldhouse on Thursday September 12.
