Weevils drop fourth consecutive contest with loss to Henderson State

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils fell in their fourth consecutive contest on Saturday with a 62-48 loss at home to Henderson State University.

The Weevils entered the contest with a 9-14 overall record and 5-12 record in the Great American Conference.

Henderson would begin the contest, scoring the first five points before the Weevils would get on the board at 17:47 on a layup by Issac Jackson.

Henderson would continue to lead the Weevils in the half, with their lead reaching nine points on a couple occasions with the Reddies extending the lead to their biggest of the contest at the end of the half, a 10-point, 32-22. lead.

Henderson would put the lead to 12 to begin the second half after a dunk by Henderson’s Xavier Owens.

After a free throw by Josh Smith cut the lead to 11 points, Jackson would cut the lead to nine points on a layup.

Henderson would score the next seven points to extend their lead to 17 points, 43-26, with 15:59 remaining in the contest.

The 7-0 run would be stopped after a three pointer by Ashton Price put the Weevil deficit to 14 points.

UAM began to cut into the Henderson lead, cutting the lead to eight points, 51-43, with 6:09 remaining in the contest.

UAM would get within six points before Henderson would score the final six points of the contest to finish with a 14-point, 62-48, win.

With the loss the Weevils fall to 9-15 overall and 5-13 in Great American Conference play, and are currently sitting at number 12 in the conference standings behind Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Leading the way for the weevils in scoring was Ashton Price with 16 points followed by Issac Jackson with 12 points.

Jackson, who achieved 1,000 points as a Weevil earlier in the season, has reached 1,343 points in his career as a Weevil to move into the 14th position all-time, surpassing Robert Williams with 1,327 points.

Josh Smith finished with nine points, Jakob Zenon with six, Giancarlo Valdez with three, and Bryson Hammond with two points.

The Weevils will travel to oklahoma for their next two contests, stopping first in Weatherford, Oklahoma on Thursday, February 19, to face the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs with the tip off set for 7:30 pm and then on to Alva, Oklahoma on Saturday to face Northeastern Oklahoma State University Rangers at 3 pm.
