The Lady Billies entered this week’s 4A-4 Regional Tournament as the number one seed coming out of the 8-4A Conference and after three games would leave the tournament as the 4A-4 Regional Tournament Champions.
It marks the second consecutive Regional Championship for the Lady Billies.
Playing in the first game of the tournament on Thursday, May 7, at 10 am in Crossett, the Lady Billies would face the fourth seed out of the 7-4A, the DeQueen Leopards.
After holding DeQueen scoreless in the top of the first inning, the Lady Billies would get on the board in the bottom of the inning after scoring seven runs off of doubles by Kiley Lane, Joanie Jeffers, and Libby Kingston.
After three innings, the Lady Billies would take a 14-0 lead into the fourth inning after a two-run home run by Addi Frazer highlighted the bottom of the third inning.
After holding the Leopards scoreless in the top of the fourth, Halle Ross would lead off the fourth with a single followed by a double by Kingston, and an RBI single by Bliss Becker to give the Lady Billies the 15-0 “Run Rule” win.
Frazer would pitch the complete game allowing one hit, zero runs, and struck out five.
Returning on Friday to face Hamburg, the Lady Billie would get one run in the bottom of the first and would go up 4-0 at the end of the second inning.
Hamburg would get two runs back in the top of the third.
Macey Stell would highlight the bottom of the third inning with a double as the Lady Billies would score three runs in the inning for a 7-2 lead.
Monticello would go on to defeat Hamburg to move to the championship game 14-4 with Frazer and Lane both connecting for home runs.
Macey Stell would pitch the complete game allowing four runs on five hits, three of the runs were earned, and three strikeouts.
In the championship contest, the Lady Billies would face rival Warren.
Against the Lady Lumberjacks the Lady Billies would take a 3-0 lead after Ashley Hales connected for a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
Bliss Becker would add a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning to go up 4-0.
Monticello added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after a single by Hales scored two runs, followed by Hales stealing home to put the score at 7-0.
Warren’s only run of the game would come in the top of the sixth inning on a home run by Bayleigh Miller.
Monticello would take the contest 7-1 for their second consecutive Regional Tournament title and will now enter the 4A State Championship Softball Tournament as the number one seed from the 4A-4 Region.
Addi Frazer pitched the seven inning contest allowing one run on three hits and striking out two.
The Lady Billies advance to the 4A State Tournament beginning on Thursday, May 14, with their game starting at 10 am in Nashville.
The Lady Billies will face the fourth seed out of the 4A-3 Regional Tournament, Heber Springs who enter with an overall record of 14-16.
