The UAM Weevils have gotten an at-large bid to the Division II Central Region #2 Tournament, beginning this Thursday, May 15, in the Minnesota State Central Regional Bracket at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
The Weevils were eliminated from the Great American Conference Championship Tournament on May 3 by Henderson State University, 4-3.
Despite the loss, the Weevils received the bid to the Central Regional Tournament at the seventh seed and will face Minnesota State University in the first round of the double elimination tournament.
Minnesota State enters as the number two overall seed.
UAM and Minnesota State have faced each other 12 times with the Mavericks holding an 8-4 advantage over the Weevils, but the Weevils have won the last two contests, playing the Mavericks twice in 2019.
With the invitation, it marks the second time in school history that the Weevils have made it to the Central Regional Tournament in consecutive seasons and will be their sixth appearance in the tournament overall.
Joining The Maverick’s and Weevils in the #2 bracket will be Pittsburg St., the number three seed, taking on Henderson State University, the number six seed.
In the #1 bracket, the number one overall seed Central Missouri will face #8 Harding University and #4 Central Oklahoma will face #5 Arkansas State University.
Minnesota State University and UAM will face off in the first contest on Thursday, May 15, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 pm.
