Weevils, Blossoms set to begin 2024-25 Basketball season on the road

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Weevils and Blossoms are set to get the 2024-25 Basketball season started this weekend on the road.

Chad Tapp will begin his fourth season at the helm for the Weevils, traveling to Kansas City, Missouri to compete in the Central Region Challenge beginning on Saturday, November 9, at 11 am.

The Weevils are coming off a 13-15 record from a season ago with Tapp having an overall record at UAM of 34-50.

The Weevils will be returning two players from last year’s team with the Weevils’ leading scorer Issac Jackson and graduate student Alex Brogdon.

Issac Jackson comes into the 2024 season with 984 career points as a Weevil, needing 16 points to join the Weevils 1000 point club.

The Weevils will face Bemidji State University on Friday with a tip off scheduled 11 am on Saturday.

Bemidji State, from Bemidji, Minnesota, had a similar record to the Weevils in 2023-24 going 13-16.

On Saturday, the Weevils will face Minnesota State University Moorhead from Moorhead, Minnesota.

MSU finished the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 25-6, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Region II Tournament.

The Weevils and Dragons are set to tip off at 12 pm.

For the UAM Blossoms, David Midlick will be entering his third season as head coach at UAM.

Midlick enters the 2024-25 Season with a 17-39 record at UAM.

The Blossoms will return seven players from the 2023-24 team that finished the season with an 8-20 overall record and a 4-18 Great American Conference record.

The Blossoms’ leading scorer, Bailey Harris, returns for her senior season having already joined the 1000 point club at UAM with 1036 career points as a Blossom.

Also returning for the Blossoms is Haleigh Crews, Jayla Sturgis, Kelsey Blakemore, Alindsey Long, Ella Mask, and Nicole Weaver.

The Blossoms will begin the season on Friday, November 8, traveling to Wichita, Kansas to compete in the GAC/MIAA Crossover.

The Blossoms will open the season against Newman University.

The Blossoms defeated Newman last season 69-48.

Tip off is set for 12 pm.

The Blossoms will return to the hardwood on Saturday to face the University of Arkansas Fort Smith at 8 pm.

The Blossoms and Lions have faced off 10 times since 2009 with the Lions holding a 7-3 historical record over the Blossoms.

The Blossoms defeated the Lions last season at Steelman Fieldhouse in a single contest by a score of 61-53.
