After beginning the Great American Conference portion of the 2025-26 basketball schedule 0-4, the University of Monticello Boll Weevils are on the board in the win column after defeating the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys at Steelman Fieldhouse in the final contest of 2025 on Thursday, December 18.
The Weevils would come into Thursday’s contest with an overall record of 4-6 and an 0-4 record in the GAC with Tech entering the contest with an overall record of 4-6 and a 2-1 GAC record.
Isaac Jackson would get things started for UAM with a jumper with Tech tying the contest 2-2 with a pair of free throws.
Both teams would go back and forth for much of the first half of play, but it would be the Weevils that would take a slim advantage at the end of the half after Ashton Price gave UAM a three-point lead, 30-27, after connecting on a jumper at the buzzer to end the half.
Tech would take the lead to start the second half after a freethrow and a three pointer.
Tech would extend their lead to seven twice in the half, but UAM came back to tiw the contest at 46 with 10:00 remaining.
The teams would continue to exchange the lead until the Weevils took the lead for good with 5:40 remaining, increasing the lead to 10 twice before the end of the contest.
UAM would end the contest with a seven-point, 61-54 win.
Leading the way for the Weevils would be Ashton Price with 20 points followed by Isaac Jackson with 14 and Giancarlo Valdez with 10.

The Weevils will return early in 2026 with their first contest being on the road in Arkadelphia to face Henderson State University on January 3 at 3 pm.
