The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils improved to 2-3 on the season after posting their first Homecoming victory since the 2019 season, defeating Southern Nazarene University 23-9.
SNU was also the same team the Weevils defeated on Homecoming seven seasons ago.
UAM would win the coin toss and would receive the ball to begin the contest.
The Weevils would be forced to punt and on their first drive of the contest SNU would put points on the board after a 34 yard field goal gave SNU a 3-0 lead.
UAM would drive to the SNU 25 yard line on their next possession with the drive ending after Tavion Faulk’s pass was intercepted then fumbled with UAM’s Josh Scott recovering the fumble at the SNU 11.
UAM would go on to tie the contest after a 22 yard field goal by Charles Stinson.
The Weevils would extend their lead to 10-3 with 7:11 remaining in the half on a 20 yard pass from Faulk to Drew Dronet and an extra point by Stinson.
SNU would cut the lead to 10-6 before the end of the half on their second field goal of the contest.
UAM would connect on their second field goal on their first possession of the second half on a 39 yard attempt by Stinson for a 13-6 lead.
SNU would add their final points of the contest on their third field goal of the contest to cut the lead to 13-9.
UAM would add another score to start the fourth quarter on a six yard run by Faulk for a 20-9 advantage.
UAM’s final score would come from a third field goal by Stinson to set up the 23-9 final.
The Weevils will travel to Shawnee, Oklahoma this Saturday to face Oklahoma Baptist University (1-4) for a 2 pm kickoff.
OBU is coming off a road loss this past Saturday to Ouachita Baptist University 35-13.
