Weevils drop fifth consecutive contest in close loss to Ouachita Baptist

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils remained winless in Great American Conference play after a close loss to Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday at Steelman Fieldhouse in the final home game of 2024.

The loss would mark the fifth consecutive loss and the fourth loss in the Great American Conference. 

In conference play, the Weevils lost their first two contests on the road in Oklahoma, a 67-44 loss to Southern Nazarene and a 74-56 loss to Oklahoma Baptist University.

The Weevils would travel to Searcy, Arkansas on Thursday, to face the Harding Bison in a 63-56 loss.

Returning home to Steelman Fieldhouse for their final home game of 2024, the Weevils would see Ouachita begin the contest on a 7-0 run before Seth Grandberry put a halt to the scoring run on a layup to cut the lead to 7-2.

Ouachita would extend their lead to 12 points, but the Weevils would come back in the half to cut the Ouachita lead to three points, 24-21, at the break.

UAM would come back and tie the contest at 37 with 12:04 remaining in the half and would take the lead for the first time inthe contest on a layup by Bryson Hammond with 11:06 on the clock.

The score would remain close for the remainder of the contest with the largest lead being held by the Weevils with a seven point advantage with 3:42 on the clock.

Ouachita would come back to tie the contest and after several lead changes, it would be Ouachita that held the advantage at the final buzzer with a three point, 61-58, win.

The Blossoms and Weevils will have one final game in 2024, travelling to Russellville to face Arkansas Tech on December 19 beginning at 5:30 pm.
