Weevils fall on the road, 40-7, to Northwestern Oklahoma

With two games remaining in the 2025 season, the University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils would travel to Alva, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 8, to face the Rangers of Northwestern State Oklahoma University.

Coming off a home loss the week prior to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, the Weevils would face a team whose season was on a similar path as UAM.

UAM entered Saturday’s contest with a 2-7 record having lost four consecutive contests with the Rangers coming into the game with a 1-8 record having lost to Ouachita Baptist the previous week with their only win coming on October 25 with a 33-22 win over Southern Nazarene.

The Weevils had defeated Southern Nazarene back one October 4 in the Homecoming game 23-9.

The Weevils would win the opening coin toss and would defer to the second half.

Dylan Duhon would get a 65-yard kick away to start the contest for a touchback to give the Rangers the ball at their own 25 yard line.

After positive yards on the first two carries of four and three yards, NWOSU quarterback Caleb Deal would be sacked for a three-yard loss by Keith Wells Jr. and Tevontae Bond to force a punt.

UAM would also be forced to punt on their opening drive with NWOSU punting on their next possession.

UAM’s next punt would be blocked at their own 45 with NWOSU’s Rayshun Callahan picking up the ball at the UAM 30 and returning it for a touchdown.

After the extra point, the Rangers would take a 7-0 lead.

The Rangers would get two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 20-0 lead into the halftime break.

After forcing UAM to punt on their first drive of the second half, UAM would force a fumble on NWOSU’s first drive with Jaquan Fank recovering the ball at the Ranger 29.

NWOSU would sack Tavion Faulk on the first play of the next drive and would leave the contest with Tyler Webb coming in at quarterback.

On Webb’s first play he would be tackled in the backfield for a 14-yard loss and would fumble the ball with the Rangers recovering.

NWOSU would get a field goal on the next possession to increase their lead to 23-0.

UAM would get on the board on their next possession.

Starting their drive on their own 35, UAM would get a first down on a pass from Web to Ahmari Cox for 12 yard to the 47.

After an incompletion, Webb would gain six yards on a run to the Ranger 47.

Isaiah Broadway would get the next carry for the Weevils, gaining seven yards down to the Ranger 40.

Webb would next connect with Josh Scott on a 21-yard completion down to the 19 yard line.

On the next play from scrimmage, Webb would connect with former Monticello Billie Tejon Tensley for the 19-yard touchdown.

It would mark Tensley’s first reception as a Weevil and his first touchdown wearing a Weevil jersey.

Charles Stinson would connect on the extra point to cut the Ranger lead to 23-7.

UAM’s defense would force NWOSU to punt on their next drive with Chasden Collins taking the punt at the UAM 35 and would get a return to the Ranger 12 yard line.

UAM would get a scoring opportunity, but Stinson’s field goal attempt would miss with the score remaining 23-7 heading into the fourth quarter. 

NWOSU would score the remainder of the points in the contest in the fourth quarter t0 improve 2-8 with the 40-7 win.

With the loss the Weevils fall to 2-8 one the season and will next travel to Magnolia to face the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders in the annual Battle of the Timberlands a t2 pm.

The contest will be the 100th contest in the rivalry dating back to November 27, 1913.

The contest will be the final game with head coach Hud Jackson as the head Weevil with Jackson announcing he would step down at seasons end.
