The University of Arkansas at Monticello took to the road on Saturday to face Great American Conference opponent, the Henderson State Reddies, in Arkadelphia.
Coming into the contest, the Weevils are coming off a win over Arkansas Tech at home to improve their record to 3-4 on the season with Henderson State having a 5-2 record after posting a loss against then nationally ranked #24 Southern Arkansas University.
UAM would win the opening coin toss and would elect to receive the football to start the contest.
Henderson’s Kolby King would get a 52-yard kick to begin the game with the Weevils beginning their first drive at their own 13 yard line.
The Weevils would gain three yards on two plays with Del=milon Brown gaining two yards on a run followed by a one yard run by Glen Cage.
Brown would suffer his first sack of the contest on the next play which created a five yard loss back to the UAM 11.
After a Weevil false start penalty, Marquise McKnight would punt the ball from their own six, getting a 48 yard punt and with an added 10 yard block in the back penalty against the Reddies, Henderson would begin their first drive of the contest at their own 36.
Henderson would gain five yards on a run on the first play from scrimmage, but on the second play Andrew Edwards would complete a short pass to Timieone Jackson who was hit for a four yard loss by TJ Jasper.
Edwards’ next pass would fall incomplete as the Reddies would be forced to punt the ball for no return at the UAM 14.
Dontae Rhodes would get the first carries of the Weevils second drive, gaining seven yards to the UAM 21 with Brown’s pass on the next play would be incomplete to force UAM to punt the ball away with McKnights punt traveling 42 yards to be fair caught at the Henderson 37.
UAM’s defense would put the Reddies in a fourth and one at the Henderson 46 with the Reddies converting the fourth down play on a five yard run by Jeremiah Davis into UAM territory to the UAM 49.
The Reddies would gain one more first down on the drive to the UAM 22.
Henderson would advance to the 18 but was held to a 35 yard field goal attempt that was unsuccessful with 6:32 remaining in the first quarter.
UAM would be forced to punt again on their next drive with McKnight’s punt sailing 34 yards with Henderson taking possession on their own 43.
Henderson would move the ball into UAM territory on the second play of their drive to the UAM 48.
Jeremiah Davis would gain seven yards on the next play to the 41 yard line and on the next play Edwards would complete a pass to Cayden Davis for the 41 yard touchdown.
Kolby King added the extra point with 2:34 on the clock to take a 7-0 lead.
After another UAM punt, Henderson would move the ball down to the UAM 11.
After a holding penalty, Edwards would connect with Cayden Davis at the 12 yard line with Davis being hit by Robert Jones causing a fumble with the ball being recovered by Jasper for a touchback.
UAM would start their drive at their own 20 with Brown running for a 10 yard gain for a first down to begin the drive.
Glen Cage would gain a yard before Brown’s next pass would be incomplete, intended for Ladarius Fair, with Henderson being flagged for a pass interference penalty that moved the ball to the UAM 46.
UAM would push the ball to the Henderson 36 on a 15 yard run by Brown and would advance to the Henderson four after a 32 yard pass from Brown that was caught by Isaiah Cross.
After a one yard run by AJ Bullock and a two yard run to the Henderson one by Rhodes, Glen Cage would take the ball in from one yard out for the Weevil touchdown.
Dylan Duhon added the extra point to tie the contest 7-7 with 5:47 remaining in the half.
Duhon would kick the ball off after the touchdown with the ball traveling 57 yards where Henderson’s Jody Easter took the ball at the eight yard line, taking the kickoff back 92 yards for the Reddie score.
After the extra point, Henderson led 14-7.
Henderson would add one more score before the end of the half to take a 21-7 lead at halftime.
Henderson would add 14 points in the third quarter to take a 35-7 lead into the fourth quarter and added one more touchdown before the final horn to end the contest with a 42-7 victory, improving to 6-2 on the season with UAM falling to 3-5.
Demilon Brown would finish the contest going 9 for 15 for 102 yards and an interception. Brown would also have 30 net yards rushing and was sacked six times in the contest.
Isaiah Cross led the Weevils in receiving with four catches for 49 yards.
Lawaun Poweel led the defense with eight tackles.
UAM returns to Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Bowl Stadium on Saturday for a 2 pm kickoff against the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison on Military Appreciation Day.
