The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils continue to sit on top of the Great American Conference standings after completing a three game sweep over the East Central University Tigers.
UAM would move up the scheduled three game series from Friday/Saturday to a single contest on Thursday and a double-header on Friday to avoid the expected weather that was predicted to move in on Saturday.
In the first game of the series on Thursday, the Weevils would get on the board first on Camden Tanner’s 14th home run on the season.
The Weevils added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
ECU would score a run in the top of the fourth but the Weevils would get runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and two in the seventh for the 8-1 win.
Returning on Friday, in game one, ECU would take a 2-0 lead with the Weevils getting two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the contest.
ECU added two in the top of the fourth and a run in the sixth to lead 5-2.
UAM would get three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the contest and in the bottom of the eight, Gabe Kuttenkuler would connect on his fifth home run of the season to take the 6-5 lead.
John White got the Tigers out in order to seal the UAM win 6-5.
In the second game of the double-header, Heath Hunter would get the start of the Weevils.
East Central would get a one run lead in the first inning and added another run in the top of the fourth inning.
UAM would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single by Kyle Tolley that saw Kuttenkuler score on an error.
Tanner would connect for a double, his team leading 15th of the season, to score Tolley and Caden Carney.
The Weevils would hold East Central scoreless for the remainder of the contest to take the contest 3-2 and the series sweep.
The Weevils improved to 28-15 overall and 23-7 in GAC play, remaining ahead of Arkansas Tech in the standings.
UAM will host Southern Arkansas beginning Friday at 6 pm for the final season series.
