The University of Arkansas at Monticello Weevils picked up the series win at home over Senior Weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma State University in a three game series that began on Friday, April 11, and concluded with a double-header on Saturday, April 12, on Senior Day.
In game one of the series, the Weevils could not overcome the long ball from Southeastern, as the Savage Storm would connect on five home runs on the day.
Connor Irvine would get the start for the Weevils, falling behind early on the first Savage Storm homerun on the day, 1-0.
The Weevils would come back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Chaz Poppy connected on a double to score Roc Hawthorne followed by a sacrifice fly by Camden Tanner to score Kirk Woolf for a 2-1 lead.
Southeastern would score three runs in the top of the second, two in the third, and four in the fourth to increase their lead to 10-3 and would go one to outscore the Weevils 12-9 in the contest after the Weevils scored five runs the bottom of the eighth inning to cut into the Savage Storm lead.
Irvine falls to 5-4 on the season with the loss.
Chaz Poppy would lead the Weevils at the plate going 2 for 3 with 4 RBI.
Returning on Saturday for a double-header on Senior Day, the Weevils would send Maxim Mrakovcic to the mound to start the contest.
Southeastern would score four runs in the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead.
The Weevils would get two runs in the bottom of the inning after an RBI single by Justin Santoyo that scored Hawthorne and a sacrifice fly by Tanner that scored Poppy.
In the bottom of the second inning, Hawthorne would connect for a double to score Cade Cancilla and an RBI groundout by Poppy to score Will Owens to tie the contest at four.
Southeastern would score a run in the top of the third and three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take an 8-4 lead.
Santoyo connected with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning that cut the lead to 8-6.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kirk Woolf would be hit by a pitch to score Cancilla and with the bases loaded, Chaz Poppy would connect on the grand slam to give the Weevils a five run inning and an 11-8 lead.
The Weevils added four runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a double by Poppy that scored two runs giving Poppy 151 career RBI, moving him to second on the all-time list.
The Weevils would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the contest 19-9.
Trey Miller would pick up his second win of the season after coming in in the contest for Mrakovcic.
Poppy would lead the Weevils going 4 for 6 with 8 RBI and two runs scored.
After honoring the senior class, the Weevils would send Bryce Louis to the mound for the final contest of the series.
The weevils would get on the board first in the contest with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Kirk Woolf connected for his fifth triple of the season to score Hawthorne followed by a pair of sacrifice fly balls that scored two more runs for the 3-0 lead.
Southeastern would score three runs in the top of the second inning to tie the contest.
After several scoreless innings, the Weevils would get eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Kyle Tolley would connect on a grand slam for 4 RBI.
Camden Tanner hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Woolf and Elijah Nichols connected on a three-run homerun to give the Weevils an 11-3 lead.
The Weevils would add four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with a double by Santoyo scoring three runs and a walk to Aidan Garrett scoring the final run of the contest giving the Weevils the 15-3 victory and the series win.
The Weevils currently sit in fourth in the Great American Conference with eight games remaining on the schedule.
