Billies improve to 6-4 on season with two victories at Alma

The Monticello Billies improved their overall record over the Spring Break period after two wins at Alma in three games beginning on Thursday, March 21, facing the Panama Razorbacks.

After five innings of scoreless baseball, the Monticello Billies would get on the board in the top of the sixth inning. 

After a strikeout to start the sixth inning, Kaleb Romero would draw a walk followed by a ground out by Trystan White for the second out of the inning but the out would allow Romero to advance to third base.

Warren Pennington would single to score Romero to give the Billies a 1-0 lead.

Easton Byrd would hold the Razorbacks to no runs and four hits in the contest as the Billies took a 1-0 win.

Returning on Friday to face Alma, the Billies would get a run in the top of the first inning after Romero reached first on an error allowing Brooks Harvey to score. 

Alma would score two runs in the bottom of the inning, three in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth for an 8-1 lead.

Monticello would get two runs in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice bunt by Romero and a single by Trystan White.

Alma would add one more run to close the contest with a 9-3 victory. 

Monticello would play in their final contest of the week against Dover on Saturday.

Monticello would get four runs in the bottom of the second inning on a walk, a single, a double, and a score on a wild pitch.

The Billies would get two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead.

The Billies got their final runs in the bottom of the six inning, scoring two more runs to take an 8-0 win.

The Billies would return to conference play on Tuesday, March 26, facing Crossett.

The Eagles would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Monticello would come back in the bottom of the inning to score five runs.

The Billies would put an exclamation point on the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning after scoring six runs in the inning to force the run rule 11-1 win after taking the 10 run lead. 

With the win the Billies improve to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Monticello will travel to Vilonia on Friday at 5 pm.
