Billies maintain second position in 8-4A Conference rankings after win

The Monticello Billies maintained their position in the 8-4A Conference behind the first place Warren Lumberjacks with wins over Hamburg and Watson Chapel.

Hosting the Hamburg Lions on April 12, in their second conference meeting  of the season, the Billies lost the first meeting 6-1 at Hamburg on March 12.

In the contest, Brooks Harvey would lead off the bottom of the first inning for the Billies with a double to right field. 

After a walk to Blaine Hayden, the Lions would get Trystan White to fly out. 

Warren Pennington would reach first on an error with Blaine Hayden and Brooks Harvey would score on that same error. 

Jagger Hines would be hit by a pitch, followed by Brooks Bowman walking to load the bases.

Kaleb Romero would draw a walk to score Pennington before Hamburg got out of the inning with the Billies leading 3-0.

The Billies would add two runs in the bottom of the second inning after Singles by Hayden and white would put runners at first and second. 

Pennington reached first on a fielder’s choice with White out at second and Hayden advancing to third. 

Hayden would steal home for a score followed by Jagger Hines reaching on an error with Pennington scoring on the play to give the Billies a 5-0 lead.

Monticello extended the lead to 6-0 after a single by Latyn Nichols scored Pennington in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Billies added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after a ground out by Brooks Harvey scored Romero and a single by White scored Hayden for an 8-0 lead.

Monticello would get their final runs of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning after Evan Bealer singled to left field to score Nichols and Pennington to give the Billies the 10-0 run-rule victory. 

Easton Byrd would pitch the complete six innings, allowing three hits and striking out six in the shutout victory. 

Monticello would return to action on Monday, April 15, hosting the Sheridan Yellowjackets in a non conference contest.

Sherisan would take over the contest early in the game, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and would get nine runs in the top of the third inning to take a 12-0 lead.

Sheridan added a run in the top of the fifth inning for a 13-0 lead.

Monticello would get their only run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Evan Bealer would connect for a triple and would score on a sacrifice fly by Brooks Harvey to set upo the final score of 13-1.

The Billes returned to conference play on Tuesday, April 16, hosting the Watson Chapel Wildcats. 

The Billies would take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Brooks Harvey reached first on a dropped ball third strike and would advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hayden. 

White would draw a walk followed by a single by Jagger Hines that scored Brooks Harvey for the first run of the game.

Byrd drew a walk followed by a single by Brooks Bowman that scored Jagger Hines.

Nichols would single in the next at bat to score Byrd for the 3-0 lead.

Monticello added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. 

Bealer led off with a single followed by a fly out by Brooks Harvey.

Hayden would connect for a double to score Bealer. 

After the second out of the inning, Jagger Hines would reach on an error scoring Hayden to increase the lead to 5-0.

Byrd would reach first on a catcher’s interference call followed by Brooks Bowman reaching on an error that scored Jagger Hines for the 6-0 lead. 

Watson Chapel came back to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead to 6-3.

Monticello added arun in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 7-3 and added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning for an 8-3 lead.

Watson Chapel would score four runs in the top of the seventh inning but could not make up the five run deficit with Monticello holding on for the 8-7 win.

With the win the Billies improve to 12-7 overall and 7-3 record in conference play.

The Billes have three games remaining on the schedule with two conference contests. 

The Billies would travel to Crossett on Friday, April 19, to face the Eagles at 5 pm for the next conference contest.
